Dune vegetation mediates dune-building through trapping wind-blown sand and reduces dune erosion by attenuating wave energy via above- and belowground biomass. Despite the role of vegetation in dune functions, the amount and distribution of biomass within a dune remains poorly quantified due to a lack of ample data. Our objectives were to determine the effects of management history and elevation on (1) dune belowground biotic structure and aboveground community composition and (2) to determine best predictors of belowground biomass.

The aim of this retrospective study was to identify pre-therapeutic predictive laboratory and molecular imaging biomarkers for response and overall survival (OS) in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) treated with prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeted radioligand therapy (RLT). Pre-therapeutic laboratory and [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT data of = 102 mCRPC patients receiving [Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 RLT within a prospective registry (REALITY Study, NCT04833517) were analyzed including laboratory parameters such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP), prostate-specific antigen (PSA), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT), neuron specific enolase (NSE), hemoglobin (Hb), and imaging parameters such as maximum standardized uptake value of the tumor lesions (SUV), the mean standardized uptake value of all tumor lesions (SUV), the whole-body molecular tumor volume (MTV), and the whole-body total lesion PSMA (TLP). Beginning in 1999, Department of Defense policy directed the military services to develop Combat and Operational Stress Control (COSC) programs to address prevention, early identification, and management of the negative effects of combat and operational stress. The aim of this study is to provide a narrative review of COSC programs and organize them into a prevention framework to clarify gaps and future directions. A systematic search was conducted to identify studies between 2001 and 2020 in peer-reviewed articles or government-sponsored reports describing an evaluation of COSC programs.

Landward migration of coastal ecosystems in response to sea-level rise is altering coastal carbon dynamics. Purpose: This study investigates imaging response of [Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 radioligand therapy (RLT) based on the whole-body parameter total lesion PSMA (TLP), derived by PSMA-PET/CT and reflecting the total tumor burden, in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) enrolled in a prospective registry (NCT04833517).

Patterns of bat activity and mortalities at wind energy facilities suggest that bats are attracted to wind turbines based on bat behavioral responses to wind turbines. For example, current monitoring efforts suggest that bat activity increases post-wind turbine construction, with bats making multiple passes near wind turbines. We separated the attraction hypothesis into five previously proposed explanations of bat interactions at or near wind turbines, including attraction based on noise, roost sites, foraging and water, mating behavior, and lights, and one new hypothesis regarding olfaction, and provide a state of the knowledge in 2022.

Recommendations for prioritizing COVID-19 vaccination have focused on the elderly at higher risk for severe disease. Existing models for identifying higher-risk individuals lack the needed integration of socio-demographic and clinical risk factors. Using multivariate logistic regression and random forest modeling, we developed a predictive model of severe COVID-19 using clinical data from Medicare claims for 16 million Medicare beneficiaries and socio-economic data from the CDC Social Vulnerability Index.

The storage of organic carbon in the terrestrial biosphere directly affects atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide over a wide range of timescales. Within the terrestrial biosphere, the magnitude of carbon storage can vary in response to environmental perturbations such as changing temperature or hydroclimate, potentially generating feedback on the atmospheric inventory of carbon dioxide. Although temperature controls the storage of soil organic carbon at mid and high latitudes, hydroclimate may be the dominant driver of soil carbon persistence in the tropics; however, the sensitivity of tropical soil carbon turnover to large-scale hydroclimate variability remains poorly understood.
