A search is presented for direct top squark pair production using events with at least two leptons including a same-flavour opposite-sign pair with invariant mass consistent with the [Formula: see text] boson mass, jets tagged as originating from [Formula: see text]-quarks and missing transverse momentum. The analysis is performed with proton-proton collision data at [Formula: see text] collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2012 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb[Formula: see text].

ATLAS measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy in lead-lead collisions at [Formula: see text] TeV are shown using a dataset of approximately 7 [Formula: see text]b[Formula: see text] collected at the LHC in 2010. The measurements are performed for charged particles with transverse momenta [Formula: see text] GeV and in the pseudorapidity range [Formula: see text]. The anisotropy is characterized by the Fourier coefficients, [Formula: see text], of the charged-particle azimuthal angle distribution for [Formula: see text]-4.

This paper presents the performance of the ATLAS muon reconstruction during the LHC run with [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text]-8 TeV in 2011-2012, focusing mainly on data collected in 2012. Measurements of the reconstruction efficiency and of the momentum scale and resolution, based on large reference samples of [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] decays, are presented and compared to Monte Carlo simulations. Corrections to the simulation, to be used in physics analysis, are provided.

This is done using variables such as the fraction of dijet events without an additional jet in the rapidity interval bounded by the dijet subsystem and correlations between the azimuthal angles of the dijet s. They are presented, both with and without a veto on additional jet activity in the rapidity interval, as a function of the scalar average of the transverse momenta of the dijet s and of the rapidity interval size.

The measurement was performed with the 2011 7 TeV dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 [Formula: see text] and the 2012 8 TeV dataset of 20.

Pipe relining via in situ epoxy lining is used to remediate corroded plumbing or distribution systems. This investigation examined the effects on odour, TOC, THM formation and disinfectant demand in water exposed to epoxy-lined copper pipes used for home plumbing. The study was conducted in accordance with the Utility Quick Test, a migration/leaching method for utilities to conduct sensory analysis of materials in contact with drinking water.

In this comprehensive investigation, the effects on odor, organic chemical release, trihalomethane (THM) formation, free chlorine demand and monochloramine demand were determined for water exposed to HDPE and cPVC pipes. The study was conducted in accordance with the Utility Quick Test (UQT), a migration/leaching protocol for analysis of materials in contact with drinking water.

In a recent paper [Phys. Rev. E 68, 011906 (2003)], Naef and Magnasco suggested that the "bright" mismatches observed in Affymetrix microarray experiments are caused by the fluorescent molecules used to label RNA target sequences, which would impede target-probe hybridization.

Despite observational evidence suggesting a link between its intake and the development of hypertension, there remains no long-term scrutiny for its effect on blood pressure (BP). We therefore undertook a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded, crossover trial in 52 hypertensive individuals to determine the effect of 12-week North American ginseng intake on 24-hour BP; we also measured serum cystatin C as a marker of renal function.

An early observational study suggested that ginseng could elevate blood pressure. This caused concern because 4.5% of American adults use ginseng, with a popular choice being North American ginseng.

Here, we present a comparative study between semicarbazide and amine glass slides in an immunofluorescent serodetection assay using HIV (Gp120, Gp41), HCV (mix-HCV, core, NS3, and NS4), and HBV (HBs) recombinant antigens. Amine and semicarbazide surfaces displayed the same sensitivity for antibodies detection just after printing.

Plasma lipoprotein composition in infants receiving fat-free parenteral nutrition reflects the endogenous synthesis and metabolism of lipids. We studied the composition of plasma lipoproteins in 49 appropriate for gestational age newborn infants after surgery who received only glucose and amino acid solutions for 5.4 +/- 0.

Twenty fullterm, appropriate-for-gestational-age, intravenously fed neonates were entered into one of two groups: total energy intake was 261 kJ.kg-1 x d-1 (62 kcal.

The value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in preoperative tumor (T) staging was assessed prospectively in 46 patients with malignant carcinomas of the oropharynx and oral cavity. In each case, the MRI findings were compared with the preoperative clinical and postoperative histopathologic findings. MRI showed an accuracy of 89% in identifying the T stage, as compared with the histopathologic result.

Shunt failure had to be primarily treated by surgery in 3 cases only. The complications were confined to a rupture of a vessel that required surgical care.

By use of the M/Q ratio and morphological criteria, it is possible with ultrasound to differentiate between relatively enlarged lymph modes and lymph node metastasis with a certainly of > 90%. This was only possible in CT after administration of contrast media and the success rate was lower (72%).
