Objectives: To determine patient-reported symptoms and clinical factors associated with mimics and differences in health-seeking behaviour versus stroke.

Design: This is a post-hoc analysis of a cross-sectional survey of interviews on patient-reported factors in patients admitted with suspected stroke. Patients were categorised as genuine stroke or mimic.

Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) and stroke share common risk factors, and symptoms of ED often precede the development of clinical cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, little is known about how ED is associated with cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in patients who had a stroke and if concomitant ED is a marker of more severe CVD.

Aims: We aimed to identify the prevalence of ED and CV risk factors in patients admitted with a stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).

Introduction: High quality of early stroke care is essential for optimizing the chance of a good patient outcome. The quality of care may be monitored by process performance measures (PPMs) and previous studies have found an association between fulfilment of PPMs and short-term mortality. However, the association with long-term mortality remains to be determined.

Objective: Atypical symptoms of stroke, such as non-specific visual symptoms, are a challenging aspect of acute stroke diagnostics. Among patients evaluated for stroke in the Emergency Department, 2-28% present with stroke chameleons, and 30-43% with stroke mimics. We aimed to identify the type of visual symptoms present in typical strokes, stroke mimics, and stroke chameleons.

Background: Identification of sex- and age-related differences in the presentation of atypical symptoms at stroke onset may reduce prehospital delay and improve stroke treatment if acknowledged at first contact.

Aim: To explore sex- and age-related differences in patient-reported typical and atypical symptoms of a stroke.

Methods: We used data from a cross-sectional survey at two non-comprehensive stroke units in the Capital Region of Denmark.

Introduction: It has not been established if migraine headache and migraine aura share common pathophysiological mechanisms. Sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, causes cGMP accumulation and provokes migraine-like headache in patients with migraine without aura. We investigated if sildenafil induced aura and migraine-like headache in patients with migraine with aura.

Objective: Timely evaluation and initiation of treatment is the key for improving stroke outcomes, although minimizing the time from symptom onset to the first contact with healthcare professionals remains a challenge. We aimed to identify patient-related factors associated with early hospital arrival.

Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional survey, we included patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack admitted directly to one of two noncomprehensive stroke units or transferred to the units from comprehensive stroke centers in the Capital Region of Denmark.

Background: Delirium is common during sepsis, although under-recognized. We aimed to assess the value of continuous electroencephalography (cEEG) to aid in the diagnosis of delirium in septic patients.

Methods: We prospectively evaluated 102 consecutive patients in a medical intensive care unit (ICU), who had sepsis or septic shock, without evidence of acute primary central nervous system disease.

Glucocorticoids (GC) are used for intensive care unit (ICU) patients on several indications. We present a patient who was admitted to the ICU due to severe respiratory failure caused by bronchospasm requiring mechanical ventilation and treated with methylprednisolone 240 mg/day in addition to antibiotics and bronchiolytics. When the sedation was lifted on day 10, the patient was awake but quadriplegic.

Introduction: The objective was to search the literature with a view to providing a general description of critical illness myopathy/polyneuropathy (CIM/CIP), including its genesis and prevention. Furthermore, it was our aim to determine whether new treatments have occurred in the past five years.

Material And Methods: PubMed, Cinahl and Swedmed+ were searched using the terms CIM, CIP and intensive care.
