Background: Proper thawing procedures are required to preserve the quality of human fresh frozen plasma (FFP). octaplasLG (Octapharma AG, Switzerland) is a frozen solution of solvent/detergent (S/D)-treated human plasma, produced to improve pathogen safety. This study aimed to validate the S/D plasma thawing process using the latest-generation of commercially-available thawing devices and to determine S/D plasma quality after thawing.

However, it is known that women exhibit considerably more stronger symptoms related to emotional competence than men. Since affective functions significantly influence the processing of risky decision-making and risk-engagement, we assume that risky behavior in ADHD is affected by sex differences.

Recently, an L-carnitine transporter (Aci1347) and a specific monooxygense (CntA/CntB) for the intracellular cleavage of L-carnitine have been characterized. Subsequent conversion of the resulting malic semialdehyde into the central metabolite L-malate was hypothesized.

While targeting sepsis-causing pathogens with source control or antimicrobials has had a dramatic impact on morbidity and mortality of sepsis patients, this strategy remains insufficient for about one-third of the affected individuals who succumb. Pharmacological targeting of mechanisms that reduce sepsis-defining organ dysfunction may be beneficial.

We performed experiments to identify possible explanations for the formation of the stains on the hands and forearms of the Turin Shroud Man (TSM). In preliminary non-standardised experiments, after applying blood to the dorsal and palmar side of the probands' wrists, they moved their arms around at their own discretion to provoke blood flows as similar as possible to those on the TS.

The mode frequency lies in the range 200≲f≲800 Hz and decreases with time. As the mode lives in the core of the proto-neutron star, its frequency and power are highly sensitive to the EOS, in particular the sound speed around twice saturation density.

On the basis of numerical simulations, it has long been speculated that the mass of such first-generation stars was up to several hundred solar masses. The very massive first-generation stars with a mass range from 140 to 260 solar masses are predicted to enrich the early interstellar medium through pair-instability supernovae (PISNe).

However, current research studies are often limited by the ability to adequately reflect daily behavior in a laboratory setting. Over the lifespan impairments in cognitive functions appear to improve, whereas affective functions become more severe.

Method: Trauma registry data for 2,112 adult patients with trauma who screened positive for alcohol were compared between three periods: pre-formal-SBI protocol (January 1, 2010, to November 29, 2011); first post-SBI protocol (February 6, 2012, to April 17, 2016) after protocol implementation, healthcare provider training, and documentation changes; and second post-SBI protocol (June 1, 2016, to June, 30, 2019) after additional training and process improvements. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and logistic regression for comparisons over time and between admitting services.
The Turin Shroud (TS) is a Christian relic interpreted to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. It exhibits red discolorations that have been interpreted as blood stains and that are the subjects of a highly controversial discussion. We conducted experiments to identify theoretically possible explanations for the stains attributed to the crown of thorns, the lance wound and the belt of blood.

A new freeze-dried (also known as lyophilized) form of OctaplasLG, referred as OctaplasLG Lyo (Octapharma AG, Switzerland) offers rapid reconstitution and more flexible storage conditions, improving logistics and utilization. This study compared the biochemical quality of OctaplasLG Lyo with OctaplasLG and single-donor fresh frozen plasma units.

The mammalian neocortex is composed of diverse neuronal and glial cell classes that broadly arrange in six distinct laminae. Cortical layers emerge during development and defects in the developmental programs that orchestrate cortical lamination are associated with neurodevelopmental diseases. The developmental principle of cortical layer formation depends on concerted radial projection neuron migration, from their birthplace to their final target position.

We measured spin-parities of four resonances above the α threshold of ^{26}Si that are found to strongly impact the ^{22}Mg(α,p) rate. The new rate advances a state-of-the-art model to remarkably reproduce light curves of the GS 1826-24 clocked burster with mean deviation <9% and permits us to discover a strong correlation between the He abundance in the accreting envelope of the photospheric radius expansion burster and the dominance of ^{22}Mg(α,p) branch.

MADM applications include the analysis of lineage, single-cell morphology and physiology, genomic imprinting phenotypes, and dissection of cell-autonomous gene functions in vivo in health and disease. Yet, MADM can only be applied to <25% of all mouse genes on select chromosomes to date.

The stellar β-decay rate of ^{59}Fe is one of the major nuclear uncertainties impeding us from a precise prediction. The important Gamow-Teller strengths from the low-lying states in ^{59}Fe to the ^{59}Co ground state are measured for the first time using the exclusive measurement of the ^{59}Co(t,^{3}He+γ)^{59}Fe charge-exchange reaction.

Methods: Adult patients (age 18+) admitted to the NTICU for at least 24 hours between June 2017 and November 2018 were identified. Near or at the time of discharge from the NTICU, the health unit coordinator or registered nurse identified the family member who was either the next-of-kin, surrogate decision-maker, or person who had been most frequently present at the patient's bedside.
Introduction: Respiratory rate is the first sign of patient decline. Monitoring and recording respiratory rate are essential nursing competencies. However, health care system emergency nurses' ability to differentiate normal from abnormal respiratory rates was unknown.

These systems are all binaries with a black-hole mass that is less than 30 times that of the Sun. Theory predicts, however, that X-ray-emitting systems form a minority of the total population of star-black-hole binaries.
