Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) are promising form of energy conversion technology that have the potential to take the role of lithium-ion batteries in portable electronics and electric cars. To increase the efficiency of DMFCs, many operating conditions ought to be optimized. Developing a reliable fuzzy model to simulate DMFCs is a major objective.

Article Synopsis
  • PEM fuel cells (FCs) are important for clean energy solutions due to their efficiency and environmental benefits, and this study focuses on improving their power output using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and optimization algorithms.
  • An ANFIS model is created to simulate the PEM-FC's output power density, factoring in variables like pressure, humidity, and membrane compression; the Salp swarm algorithm (SSA) is then used to optimize these input parameters.
  • Results show that SSA outperforms other optimization methods, achieving the highest power density of 716.63 mW/cm, with strong model validation indicated by low RMSE values and high coefficients of determination.

Perovskite membranes have gained considerable attention in gas separation and production due to their unique properties such as high selectivity and permeability towards various gases. These membranes are composed of perovskite oxides, which have a crystalline structure that can be tailored to enhance gas separation performance. In oxygen enrichment, perovskite membranes are employed to separate oxygen from air, which is then utilized in a variety of applications such as combustion and medical devices.

The slow dynamic response of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) to high load change during deficit periods must be considered. Therefore, integrating the hybrid system with energy storage devices like battery storage and/or a supercapacitor is necessary. To reduce the consumed hydrogen, an energy management strategy (EMS) based on the white shark optimizer (WSO) for photovoltaic/PEMFC/lithium-ion batteries/supercapacitors microgrid has been developed.

Bald eagle search algorithm (BES) is a recent metaheuristic algorithm based on bald eagle hunting behavior. Like other metaheuristic algorithms, the BES algorithm is prone to entangle in local optimums due to limited diversity, sluggish convergence rate, or improper equilibrium between exploitation and exploration. Thus, adaptive parameters are injected into the original BES to overcome these shortcomings.

The path planning of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is a complex and hard task that can be formulated as a Large-Scale Global Optimization (LSGO) problem. A higher partition of the flight environment leads to an increase in route's accuracy but at the expense of greater planning complexity. In this paper, a new Parallel Cooperative Coevolutionary Grey Wolf Optimizer (PCCGWO) is proposed to solve such a planning problem.

The application of graphene (Gr) to microbial fuel cells (MFCs) and microbial electrolysis cell (MECs) is considered a very promising approach in terms of enhancing their performance. The superior Gr properties of high electrical and thermal conductivities, along with: superior specific surface area, high electron mobility, and mechanical strength, are the key features that endorse this. Factors impeding the advancement of a microbial fuel cell into commercialization involve primarily the cost of their components, and their production on a small scale.

Supercapacitor (SC) is completely valuable as an energy storage device for different applications such as electric vehicles and hybrid renewable systems. A simple SC model that composed of series RC circuit is insufficient to precisely characterize its dynamic performance. Consequently, an accurate mathematical model must be created for reliable and safe operation of SC.

A study on mass transfer using new coating materials (namely alginic acid and polygalacturonic acid) during osmotic dehydration-and hence in a laboratory-scale convective dryer to evaluate drying performance-was carried out. Potato and apple samples were examined as model heat-sensitive products in this study. Results indicate that the coating material containing both alginic acid and polygalacturonic acid causes higher water loss of about 17% and 7.
