Viral forgetting, or how to have ignorance in a syndemic.

This paper argues for the concept of viral forgetting to understand how and why the lessons of HIV were not easy to remember in the context of COVID. Building on recently drawn analogies between the two epidemics, we argue that new normative injunctions to 'flatten the curve' and 'stay at home' individualise responses to COVID that make memory of the first decade of HIV vital in recent viral times. Individualistic responses, including those that bind individuals to social identity groups, obscure the ways in which effective care for others and the self requires a recognition of the partiality of community, the inevitability of vulnerability, and a complex interpretation of scientific evidence and human ontology.

However, the relationships between stigmatization and essentialist beliefs about vocal cues to SO have not been researched. Two studies examined heterosexuals' and gay men's and lesbian women's essentialist beliefs about voice as a cue of SO to uncover essentialist beliefs' role in the perpetration and experience of stigma.

The association of Coronavirus Disease-19 mortality and prior bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccination: a robust ecological analysis using unsupervised machine learning.

Population-level data have suggested that bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination may lessen the severity of Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) prompting clinical trials in this area. Some reports have demonstrated conflicting results. We performed a robust, ecologic analysis comparing COVID-19 related mortality (CRM) between strictly selected countries based on BCG vaccination program status utilizing publicly available databases and machine learning methods to define the association between active BCG vaccination programs and CRM.

Inter-animal genetic variability exist in organoleptic properties of prime beef meat.

The objective of the present study was to estimate genetic parameters for four organoleptic traits in beef meat, namely tenderness, juiciness, flavour and chewiness using data from 5380 young crossbred progeny of 748 different sires. As well as using the mean animal sensory score across all panellists for a given trait, other aggregate functions such as the median and modal values were also investigated. The heritability (SE) of mean tenderness, juiciness, flavour and chewiness was 0.

Eating quality of the longissimus thoracis muscle in beef cattle - Contributing factors to the underlying variability and associations with performance traits.

The objective was to determine the factors associated with meat tenderness, juiciness, flavour and chewiness in 4791 growing crossbred cattle. Meat quality of bulls was inferior to that of both steers and heifers with little difference between the latter two genders. Angus, Hereford and Belgian Blues had the most tender meat with the Simmental being the toughest albeit the difference was, on average, only 5%.

An experimental philosophical bioethical study of how human rights are applied to clitorectomy on infants identified as female and as intersex.

Clitorectomies performed on the genitals of infants identified as female and as intersex have been described both as similar procedures and as different procedures. The former types of surgery have been recognised more consistently as human rights abuses than the latter in recent decades. We tested social psychological explanations of why human rights are differently recognised when infants are described as 'intersex' or 'female'; 122 laypeople in the UK read one of two near-identical descriptions of clitorectomies performed on intersex or female infants and reported their agreement with 22 items about the human rights of such infants.

The role of the urologist, BCG vaccine administration, and SARS-CoV-2: An overview.

Objectives: To summarize the available literature regarding bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) administration, severe acute respiratory syndrome conoravirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), and the resulting clinical condition coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in light of recent epidemiologic work suggesting decreased infection severity in BCG immunized populations while highlighting the potential role of the urologist in clinical trials and ongoing research efforts.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed the available literature regarding COVID-19 and BCG vaccination. Specifically, the epidemiologic evidence for decreased COVID-19 morbidity in countries with BCG vaccination programs, current clinical trials for BCG vaccination to protect against COVID-19, potential mechanisms and rationale for this protection, and the role of the urologist and urology clinic in providing support and/or leading ongoing efforts.

Since Bacillus Calmette-Guérin is one of the most commonly delivered therapies in urology, in this editorial we discuss some points that we think will be of interest and guidance to practicing urologists during this public health emergency.

Heroes against homophobia: does elevation uniquely block homophobia by inhibiting disgust?

Homophobia has decreased in past decades, but gut-level disgust towards gay men lingers. It has been suggested that disgust can be reduced by inducing its proposed opposite emotion, elevation. Research suggests elevation might reduce homophobia, but only general elevation (not elevation evoked by gay people) and general attitudes (rather than disgust) have been studied.

Histories of psychology after Stonewall: Introduction to the special issue.

This article introduces the special issue Fifty Years Since Stonewall: The Science and Politics of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. Here, the commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall uprising frames our discussion of issues of representation that arise in commemorating events in general, and events in the history of psychology in particular. We describe how the articles in the special issue expand the existing narratives about the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender psychology that are centered in the United States, focused primarily on sexual orientation and often end, rather than begin, in the time of Stonewall.

A Prospective Randomized Study Comparing Postoperative Pain, Biological Fixation, and Clinical Outcomes Between Two Uncemented Rotating Platform Tibial Tray Designs.

Background: With the demand for arthroplasty increasing worldwide year on year, there is a drive to improve prosthesis longevity. Biological fixation from cementless implants has been one method of trying to achieve this. We hypothesized that the addition of a hydroxyapatite (HA) coating and 4 pegs to a porous-coated tibial tray would provide a reduction in time to implant osseointegration, allowing for normal physiological stress transfer, thus improving early postoperative pain and rehabilitation as well as the elimination of radiolucent lines (RLLs).

Clitoral surgery on minors: an interview study with clinical experts of differences of sex development.

Objectives: Clitoral surgery on minors diagnosed with differences of sex development is increasingly positioned as a violation of human rights. This qualitative study identified how health professionals (HPs) navigate the contentious issues as they offer care to affected families.

Design: Qualitative analysis of audio-recorded semistructured interviews with HPs.

Potential exists to change, through breeding, the yield of individual primal carcass cuts in cattle without increasing overall carcass weight1.

The ability to alter the morphology of cattle towards greater yields of higher value primal cuts has the potential to increase the value of animals at slaughter. Using weight records of 14 primal cuts from 31,827 cattle, the objective of the present study was to quantify the extent of genetic variability in these primal cuts; also of interest was the degree of genetic variability in the primal cuts adjusted to a common carcass weight. Variance components were estimated for each primal cut using animal linear mixed models.
