This systematic review critically evaluates the current state and future potential of real-time, end-to-end smart, and automated irrigation management systems, focusing on integrating the Internet of Things (IoTs) and machine learning technologies for enhanced agricultural water use efficiency and crop productivity. In this review, the automation of each component is examined in the irrigation management pipeline from data collection to application while analyzing its effectiveness, efficiency, and integration with various precision agriculture technologies. It also investigates the role of the interoperability, standardization, and cybersecurity of IoT-based automated solutions for irrigation applications.

Agriculture is considered a hotspot for wireless sensor network (WSN) facilities as they could potentially contribute towards improving on-farm management and food crop yields. This study proposes six designs of unmanned aerial system (UAS)-enabled data ferries with the intent of communicating with stationary sensor node stations in maize. Based on selection criteria and constraints, a proposed UAS data ferrying design was shortlisted from which a field experiment was conducted for two growing seasons to investigate the adoptability of the selected design along with an established WSN system.

Irrigation is an important adaptation to reduce crop yield loss due to water stress from both soil water deficit (low soil moisture) and atmospheric aridity (high vapor pressure deficit, VPD). Variable rate irrigation (VRI) may improve center pivot irrigation management, including deficit irrigation. A remote-sensing-based evapotranspiration model was implemented with Landsat imagery to manage irrigations for a VRI equipped center pivot irrigated field located in West-Central Nebraska planted to maize in 2017 and soybean in 2018. In 2017, the study included VRI using the model, and uniform irrigation using neutron attenuation for full irrigation with no intended water stress (VRI-Full and Uniform-Full treatments, respectively).

Reduction of phosphorus (P) inputs to surface waters may decrease eutrophication. Some researchers have proposed filtering dissolved P in runoff with P-sorptive byproducts in structures placed in hydrologically active areas with high soil P concentrations. A borehole permeameter is well suited for testing saturated hydraulic conductivity (K(sat)) at specific depths in the vadose zone. Most applications of the method involve fine-grained soils that allow hand auguring of test holes and require a small water reservoir to maintain a constant head. In non-cohesive gravels, hand-dug test holes are difficult to excavate, holes are prone to collapse, and large volumes of water are necessary to maintain a constant head for the duration of the test.

We report the results of a series of experiments designed to determine the effects of ibandronate (Ibn) and risedronate (Ris) on a number of bone quality parameters in aged osteopenic rats to explain how bone material and bone mass may be affected by the dose of bisphosphonates (BP) and contribute to their anti-fracture efficacy. Memory performance in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is discussed as a pathogenetic risk factor for the emergence of OCD, particularly checking compulsions. At present, however, findings are mixed and little is known about memory performance in tasks relevant to everyday functioning in patients with OCD. For the present study, memory performance was assessed in 31 patients diagnosed with OCD and 33 healthy controls with the Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test (RBMT), which covers a wide range of verbal and nonverbal memory components as well as prospective memory.

Leukocyte common antigen-related (LAR) protein is a cell adhesion molecule-like receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase. We previously reported that in LAR tyrosine phosphatase-deficient (LAR-Delta P) mice the number and size of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons as well as their innervation of the hippocampal area was reduced. With the hippocampus being implicated in behavioural activity aspects, including learning and memory processes, we assessed possible phenotypic consequences of LAR phosphatase deficiency using a battery of rodent behaviour tests.

To determine whether microbiologic cure of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related disseminated cryptococcosis is possible in patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), antifungal therapy was discontinued in 6 patients with a history of disseminated cryptococcosis who had received > or =12 months of antifungal therapy. All were asymptomatic and had absolute CD4+ T cell counts of >150 cells/microL (range, 178-525 cells/microL). Blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and urine samples were obtained for fungal culture.

Rats selected on the basis of their apomorphine susceptibility or on the basis of their response to novelty were used to investigate the role of mesolimbic adrenoceptors in the retrieval of spatial information in the water maze task. Apomorphine-susceptible rats and high responders to novelty (HR) showed a relatively bad retrieval during the 1st trial of the 2nd day compared with apomorphine-unsusceptible rats and low responders to novelty (LR). Intra-accumbens injections of different doses of the beta-agonist isoproterenol, given just before that trial, disrupted the retrieval in LR rats but not in HR rats.

A computerized method for classifying the postures of freely moving rodents is presented. The behavior of the rats was recorded on videotape by means of a camera hanging perpendicular to an open field. The present study analyzed the effect of intra-accumbens administration of the stereoisomers of sulpiride upon (3,4-dihydroxyphenylimino)-2-imidazoline (DPI)-induced changes in oral behaviours and electromyographic patterns of jaw muscles. In line with earlier findings, DPI (5 micrograms) administered into the nucleus accumbens increased chewing and tremor. l-Sulpiride (2-50 ng) had no effect on DPI-induced oro-facial behaviours.

The present study examines two characteristic traits of the hippocampus in apomorphine-susceptible (APO-SUS) and apomorphine-unsusceptible (APO-UNSUS) Wistar rat lines. Since hippocampal mossy fibers contain among others dynorphin B as transmitter, a radioimmunoassay was used to analyze the hippocampal dynorphin B expression in response to novelty in these lines. Dynorphin B expression at the end of the baseline condition was greater in APO-SUS rats than in APO-UNSUS rats, while exposure to novelty decreased and increased the dynorphin B expression in APO-SUS and APO-UNSUS rats, respectively.

A method was developed to analyze electromyographic (EMG) signals in terms of power, viz., a measure for overall muscle activity, and number of seconds marked by distinct frequency ranges. The first part of this study demonstrates that the bimodal shape of variation in "fleeing" and "nonfleeing" or "freezing" rats of an outbred strain of Wistar rats forms part of an overall biomodal variation in behavioural responses to injections of agents, which selectively alter, or reflect, the noradrenergic or dopaminergic activity in the ventral striatum, and dopaminergic activity in the dorsal striatum, the GABA-ergic activity in the substantia nigra, pars reticulata, and the GABA-ergic activity in the deeper layers of the superior colliculus. It is concluded that the "fleeing" and "nonfleeing" rats, each of them marked by their own trans-situational consistency in pharmacological and behavioural responses, represent the two fundamentally different types of individuals which normally exist in unselected populations of rodents.
