Elucidation of Bacterial Pneumonia-Causing Pathogens in Patients with Respiratory Viral Infection.

Background: Bacterial pneumonia occurring after respiratory viral infection is common. However, the predominant bacterial species causing pneumonia secondary to respiratory viral infections other than influenza remain unknown. The purpose of this study was to know whether the pathogens causing post-viral bacterial pneumonia vary according to the type of respiratory virus.

Efficacy of tenofovir-based rescue therapy for chronic hepatitis B patients with resistance to lamivudine and entecavir.

Background/aims: Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) monotherapy for 48 weeks provided a virological response comparable to that of TDF and entecavir (ETV) combination therapy in patients infected with ETV-resistant hepatitis B virus (HBV). Little long-term data in routine clinical practice are available regarding the optimal treatment of patients with ETV-resistant HBV.

Methods: We investigated the long-term antiviral efficacy of combination therapy of TDF+lamivudine (LAM) or TDF+ETV compared to that of TDF monotherapy in 73 patients with resistance to both LAM and ETV.

Trend and treatment patterns of aplastic anemia in Korea, pure red cell aplasia and myelodysplastic syndrome in Korea: a nation-wide analysis.

Aplastic anemia (AA) and pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) appear to be more prevalent in Asian countries including Korea. However, there are no exact data regarding its prevalence and frequency of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in Korea. Here, we present demographic data relating to AA/PRCA/MDS in Korea.

Metastatic prostate cancer initially presenting as chylothorax: A case report.

Chylothorax is caused by disruption or obstruction of the thoracic duct, which results in leakage of chyle in the pleural space. The most common etiologies are malignancy and trauma. Among the causative malignancies, lymphoma is the most common, followed by primary lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, and other metastatic malignancies.
