Clinical data included age, sex, and serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels.
Background: Ultrasound education is transitioning from in-person training to remote methods using mixed reality (MR) and 5G networks. Previous studies are mainly experimental, lacking randomized controlled trials in direct training scenarios.
Objective: This study aimed to compare an MR-based telesupervised ultrasound education platform on private 5G networks with traditional in-person training for novice doctors.
Aims: Small bowel capsule endoscopy, which has been widely used to evaluate small bowel disease, has a risk of capsule retention (CR). The present systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the accuracy of patency capsule (PC) and cross-sectional imaging (CSI) for predicting CR.
Methods: Databases, including MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane library, were searched for articles through August 15, 2023, that investigated the diagnostic accuracy of PC or CSI for predicting CR.
Objective: To establish local diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for pediatric neck CT based on age, weight, and water-equivalent diameter (WED) across multiple university hospitals in South Korea.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed pediatric neck CT examinations from nine university hospitals, involving patients aged 0-18 years. Data were categorized by age, weight, and WED, and radiation dose metrics, including volume CT dose index (CTDI) and dose length product, were recorded.
To evaluate the efficacy of human placental extract (HPE) eye drops compared to that of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and human peripheral blood serum (HPBS) eye drops in a mouse model of experimental dry eye (EDE) and corneal alkali burns. EDE and alkali burn models were induced in C57BL/6 mice using desiccating stress and NaOH, respectively. In both the EDE and alkali burn models, treatment groups received CMC, HPBS, or HPE eye drops.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on pediatric patients who underwent contrast-enhanced or unenhanced MRI between January 1st, 2015, and June 30th, 2021. Examinations were included if they had data on height and serum creatinine levels within 3 months before and 2 days after the examinations.
Background: Ultrasound education is transitioning from in-person training to remote methods using mixed reality (MR) and 5G networks. Previous studies are mainly experimental, lacking randomized controlled trials in direct training scenarios.
Objective: This study aimed to compare an MR-based tele-supervised ultrasound education platform on private 5G networks with traditional in-person training for novice doctors.
Background: Recent reports have demonstrated promising results regarding the use of ketamine sedation for reducing pediatric intussusception without an associated elevated risk of bowel perforation. However, data on direct intraluminal pressure are still lacking. This study aimed to investigate sedation safety, primarily by comparing intraluminal pressure.

Background: This descriptive survey study aimed to investigate the effects of emotional labor, work-life balance, and empowerment on nurses' professional quality of life (ProQOL) and provide foundational data for improving the ProQOL of Korean nurses.
Methods: Nurses who had been working for at least six months in hospitals in Yeosu, Suncheon, and Gwangyang, the Republic of Korea, were surveyed in April 2022. Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected on general characteristics, emotional labor, work-life balance, empowerment, and ProQOL.
Background: This retrospective, cross-sectional study aimed to assess the functional hearing capacity of individuals with Chronic Otitis Media (COM) using prediction modeling techniques and the Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly (HHIE) questionnaire. This study investigated the potential of predictive models to identify hearing levels in patients with COM.
Methods: We comprehensively examined 289 individuals diagnosed with COM, of whom 136 reported tinnitus and 143 did not.

Background: Effective communication between patients and healthcare providers in the emergency department (ED) is challenging due to the dynamic nature of the ED environment. This study aimed to trial a chat service enabling patients in the ED and their family members to ask questions freely, exploring the service's feasibility and user experience.
Objectives: To identify the types of needs and inquiries from patients and family members in the ED that could be addressed through the chat service and to assess the user experience of the service.
Aim: We assessed the efficacy of anti-hyperkalemic agents for alleviating hyperkalemia and improving clinical outcomes in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).
Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective observational study of OHCA patients treated at tertiary hospitals between 2010 and 2020. Adult patients aged 18 or older who were in cardiac arrest at the time of arrival and had records of potassium levels measured during cardiac arrest were included.
T cell immunoglobulin and mucin-containing molecule 3 (TIM-3) exhibits unique, cell type- and context-dependent characteristics and functions. Here, we report that TIM-3 on myeloid cells plays essential roles in modulating lung inflammation. We found that myeloid cell-specific TIM-3 knock-in (FSF-TIM3/LysM-Cre) mice have lower body weight and shorter lifespan than WT mice.

In this study, we elucidated the distinctive functional properties of Gal-9 on myeloid cells within the brain tumor microenvironment (TME). Gal-9-expressing cells were abundant at the hypoxic tumor edge in the tumor-bearing ipsilateral hemisphere compared with the contralateral hemisphere in an intracranial mouse brain tumor model.

Its safety and efficacy in adults with PN and effectiveness in other NF1 manifestations (eg, neurocognitive function, growth reduction, and café-au-lait spots) are unknown.
Methods: This open-label, phase II trial enrolled 90 pediatric or adult NF1 patients with inoperable, symptomatic, or potentially morbid, measurable PN (≥3 cm).
Aim: This study introduces RealCAC-Net, an artificial intelligence (AI) system, to quantify carotid artery compressibility (CAC) and determine the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Methods: A prospective study based on data from a South Korean emergency department from 2022 to 2023 investigated carotid artery compressibility in adult patients with cardiac arrest using a novel AI model, RealCAC-Net. The data comprised 11,958 training images from 161 cases and 15,080 test images from 134 cases.
Background: Many cases of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are diagnosed in the emergency department, and abbreviated lower extremity venous point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has already shown an accuracy comparable to that of specialists. This study aimed to identify the learning curve necessary for emergency medicine (EM) residents to achieve expertise-level accuracy in diagnosing DVT through a 3-point lower extremity venous POCUS.
Methods: This prospective study was conducted at an emergency department between May 2021 and October 2022.
Background Despite a proven role in the characterization of liver lesions, use of the gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) gadoxetate disodium at MRI is limited in children due to a lack of comparative safety data. Purpose To evaluate the safety of the GBCA gadoxetate disodium (a linear ionic hepatobiliary contrast agent [HBA]) in children and adolescents, compared with extracellular contrast agents (ECA). Materials and Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted in children and adolescents aged 18 years or younger who underwent HBA-enhanced MRI at one of three tertiary hospitals from January 2010 to December 2022.
