Biportal endoscopic spine surgery (BESS) is an emerging technique for lumbar spinal stenosis. Previous BESS techniques involve partial osteotomy for access to spinal canal such as partial laminotomy, partial facetectomy, and other forms to access the spinal canal for decompression. However, approaches that include osteotomy can cause bone bleeding intraoperatively, leading to obscured vision, and may be at risk of postoperative facet arthritis and segmental instability due to damage to the posterior stability structure.

Article Synopsis
  • * Results showed that a higher PRS was more strongly related to EGFR-positive LUAD cases (OR=8.63) than to EGFR-negative cases (OR=3.50), indicating a significant association based on mutation status.
  • * These findings imply that genetic susceptibility to LUAD differs in never-smoking East Asian women depending on whether the cancer has specific mutations, which could affect public health strategies and clinical practices.*

Dual-mode photoacoustic/ultrasound endoscopy (ePAUS) is a promising tool for preclinical and clinical interventions. To be clinically useful, ePAUS must deliver high-performance ultrasound imaging comparable to commercial systems and maintain high photoacoustic imaging performance at long working distances. This requires a transducer with an intact physical aperture and coaxial alignment of acoustic and optical beams within the probe, a challenging integration task.

Article Synopsis
  • Within-sample variation in cotton fiber length affects yarn production and quality, prompting the textile industry to focus on improving long fibers and reducing short ones.
  • The USTER High Volume Instrument (HVI) is commonly used for assessing fiber length but has limitations for genetic studies due to its indirect measurements.
  • The Advanced Fiber Information System (AFIS) directly measures individual fibers, providing more sensitive and accurate length data, which, when combined with genome-wide association studies (GWAS), enables better identification of genetic loci associated with fiber length variations.
