The role of endoscopic evaluation for radiation proctitis in patients receiving intermediate-dose postoperative radiotherapy for rectal cancer.

Objectives: High-dose pelvic radiotherapy (RT) is known to be associated with chronic radiation proctitis (RP). However, the effects of intermediate radiation doses are unknown. We assessed the incidence of late clinical RP among patients with rectal cancer receiving intermediate-dose postoperative RT, as well as the role of early endoscopic abnormalities in predicting RP development.

Individual case review in a phase 3 randomized trial to investigate the role of internal mammary lymph node irradiation for breast cancer: Korean Radiation Oncology Group 08-06 study.

Purpose/objective: This study aimed to assess protocol compliance based on an individual case review (ICR) of the Korean Radiation Oncology Group-0806 trial.

Methods And Materials: For the ICR, 747 participants were divided into eight subgroups based on internal mammary node irradiation (IMNI), tumor laterality, and surgery type. Next, 15% of patients were randomly selected within each subgroup, and corresponding hospitals were subsequently requested to upload information related to radiation therapy (RT) planning.

Multimodality treatment with radiotherapy for huge hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: For huge hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), therapeutic decisions have varied from local therapy to systemic therapy, with radiotherapy (RT) playing only a palliative role. In this study, we investigated whether multimodality treatment involving RT could be effective in huge HCC.

Results: This study was performed in 116 patients with HCC >10 cm.

Clinical outcomes after sentinel lymph node biopsy in clinically node-negative breast cancer patients.

Purpose: To evaluate non-sentinel lymph node (LN) status after sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB) in patients with breast cancer and to identify the predictive factors for disease failure.

Materials And Methods: From January 2006 to December 2007, axillary lymph node (ALN) dissection after SNB was performed for patients with primary invasive breast cancer who had no clinical evidence of LN metastasis. A total of 320 patients were treated with breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy.

Helical tomotherapy for spine oligometastases from gastrointestinal malignancies.

Purpose: This study evaluated the treatment effectiveness and proper radiation dose of helical tomotherapy (HT) in spine oligometastases from gastrointestinal cancers.

Materials And Methods: From 2006 to 2010, 20 gastrointestinal cancer patients were treated with HT for spine oligometastases (31 spine lesions). The gross tumor volume (GTV) was the tumor evident from magnetic resonance imaging images fused with simulation computed tomography images.
