DNA methylation of RUNX3 in papillary thyroid cancer.

Background/aims: The relationship between Runt-related transcription factor 3 (RUNX3) gene inactivation and various solid tumors has been reported; however, little information is available about RUNX3 in thyroid cancers.

Methods: We evaluated the DNA methylation of RUNX3 in 13 papillary thyroid cancer tissues and four thyroid cancer cell lines. Additionally, using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, we analyzed RUNX3 gene expression in several thyroid cancer cell lines after treating with the demethylating agent 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (DAC).

Early acute kidney injury is a risk factor that predicts mortality in patients treated with colistin.

The nephrotoxicity of colistin has been reported in the literature. A previous report has shown that acute kidney injury (AKI) occurred after an average of 13.5 days, but we have experienced that AKI developed with colistin administration earlier.

Transient complete atrioventricular block associated with curcumin intake.

Curcumin is a polyphenol responsible for the yellow color of turmeric, a curry spice. A large body of evidence showed that curcumin possessed a variety of beneficial activities. We report a case of transient complete atrioventricular block in a 38-year-old man, after intake of curcumin containing pills for on 1 month.
