Objective: To describe clinical and radiographic outcomes in dogs with uncomplicated pneumonia receiving a shorter (2-week) versus longer (4-week) duration of antimicrobial therapy.

Animals: 30 client-owned dogs with radiographic evidence of pneumonia.

Methods: Dogs were randomly assigned to either a 2-week course of antimicrobials followed by a 2-week course of placebo medication (2-week group) or a 4-week course of antimicrobials (4-week group).

Canine splenic hemangiosarcoma (HSA) is an aggressive tumour of vascular endothelium that carries a grave prognosis following standard of care treatment with surgery and doxorubicin. A previous pilot study revealed potential anti-tumour activity of I'm-Yunity polysaccharopeptide (PSP) for canine HSA. The aim of this prospective study was to assess patient outcome when treated with PSP alone or in combination with doxorubicin post-splenectomy compared to patients treated with surgery and doxorubicin that received a placebo in place of PSP.

A prospective randomized trial of desmopressin in canine mammary carcinoma.

Metastatic disease represents a serious and often fatal development in patients with solid tumours, including women with breast cancer and dogs with mammary tumours. Therefore, preventing and treating metastatic disease has remained a priority in cancer research. Desmopressin, a synthetic derivative of vasopressin, traditionally used to treat patients with bleeding disorders, has been proposed as a potential anti-metastatic agent due to its effect on haemostasis as well as multiple other anti-proliferative and anti-angiogenic mechanisms.
