Mucocutaneous granulomatous disease in a patient with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome.

Importance: Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a rare genodermatosis characterized by oculocutaneous albinism, platelet dysfunction, and in some patients, pulmonary fibrosis and granulomatous colitis. The granulomatous inflammation in the bowel of patients with HPS can be indistinguishable clinically and histologically from that of Crohn disease (CD); however, mucocutaneous granulomatous lesions have not been considered among the typical skin findings of HPS.

Observations: We report a case of an albino woman in her 40s with a history of CD and pulmonary fibrosis who presented with ulcers, plaques, and nodules in the vulva, perineum, inguinal creases, and left axilla.

Shock treatment: swimming pool contact dermatitis.

Allergic contact dermatitis to potassium peroxymonosulfate, used as a chemical shock treatment for hot tubs and swimming pools, should be in the differential diagnosis for patients presenting with dermatitis triggered by swimming pool or hot tub exposure. We report the first pediatric case of allergic contact dermatitis to potassium peroxymonosulfate after swimming exposure.

Suture boots: an aid for the injection of onabotulinum toxin a for primary focal hyperhidrosis.

Primary focal hyperhidrosis is a difficult problem for adults, children, and adolescents, causing significant impairment in quality of life. Onabotulinum toxin A injection is an effective third-line treatment for primary focal hyperhidrosis. Here we describe a technique to ensure adequate depth of botulinum toxin placement in the dermis using suture boots as an aid for injection.

Examining the use of oral contraceptives in the management of acne.

Combined oral contraceptive pills (cOCPs) are often used in the treatment of acne in females. They are effective, safe, and easy to use in appropriate patients in combination with more conventional acne therapies. This article will briefly address the physiologic rationale for the use of cOCPs in the treatment of acne.
