A review of equity issues in quantitative studies on health inequalities: the case of asthma in adults.

Background: The term 'inequities' refers to avoidable differences rooted in injustice. This review examined whether or not, and how, quantitative studies identifying inequalities in risk factors and health service utilization for asthma explicitly addressed underlying inequities. Asthma was chosen because recent decades have seen strong increases in asthma prevalence in many international settings, and inequalities in risk factors and related outcomes.

Public perceptions of ethical issues regarding adult predictive genetic testing.

The purpose of this study was to explore the views of members of the general public regarding ethical issues in adult predictive genetic testing. The literature pertaining to ethical issues regarding to adult predictive genetic testing is largely restricted to the views of 'experts' who have emphasized informed consent, patent issues, and insurance discrimination. Occasionally the views of patients who have undergone genetic counselling and testing have been elicited, adding psychosocial and family issues.

A proposed definition of regenerative medicine.

There exists a lack of consensus regarding a clear and precise definition of regenerative medicine. We suggest here a definition developed by the authors with input from researchers in the various contributing disciplines. This definition emphasizes the interdisciplinarity of the field, its goal of restoring impaired function, and the wide variety of technologies that can contribute to achieving this goal.

Regenerative medicine and the developing world.

This is the first study to systematically identify and prioritize which applications of regenerative medicine are the most promising for improving health in developing countries.
