A novel post-1950 CE atmospheric C record for the tropics using absolutely dated tree rings in the equatorial Amazon.

In this study, we present a comprehensive atmospheric radiocarbon (C) record spanning from 1940 to 2016, derived from 77 single tree rings of Cedrela odorata located in the Eastern Amazon Basin (EAB). This record, comprising 175 high-precision C measurements obtained through accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), offers a detailed chronology of post-1950 CE (Common Era) C fluctuations in the Tropical Low-Pressure Belt (TLPB). To ensure accuracy and reliability, we included C-AMS results from intra-annual successive cuts of the tree rings associated to the calendar years 1962 and 1963 and conducted interlaboratory comparisons.

Integration of Twelve Step with Evidence-Based Practices in a Residential Treatment Center.

Residential treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs) typically involves both medical and psychological treatments to best meet the needs of service users. Common treatments include Twelve Step Facilitation (TSF) as well as evidence-based practices (EBPs) such as cognitive behavioral therapies and medications. Researchers have discussed the difficulties with implementation and sustainability of EBPs within treatment centers that predominantly use TSF.

Progress in Australian dendroclimatology: Identifying growth limiting factors in four climate zones.

Dendroclimatology can be used to better understand past climate in regions such as Australia where instrumental and historical climate records are sparse and rarely extend beyond 100years. Here we review 36 Australian dendroclimatic studies which cover the four major climate zones of Australia; temperate, arid, subtropical and tropical. We show that all of these zones contain tree and shrub species which have the potential to provide high quality records of past climate.

Microbiological Safety and Food Handling Practices of Seed Sprout Products in the Australian State of Victoria.

Seed sprouts have been implicated as vehicles for numerous foodborne outbreaks worldwide. Seed sprouts pose a unique food safety concern because of the ease of microbiological seed contamination, the inherent ability of the sprouting process to support microbial growth, and their consumption either raw or lightly cooked. To examine seed sprout safety in the Australian state of Victoria, a survey was conducted to detect specific microbes in seed sprout samples and to investigate food handling practices relating to seed sprouts.

Dissecting the genetic complexity of human 6p deletion syndromes by using a region-specific, phenotype-driven mouse screen.

Monosomy of the human chromosome 6p terminal region results in a variety of congenital malformations that include brain, craniofacial, and organogenesis abnormalities. To examine the genetic basis of these phenotypes, we have carried out an unbiased functional analysis of the syntenic region of the mouse genome (proximal Mmu13). A genetic screen for recessive mutations in this region recovered thirteen lines with phenotypes relevant to a variety of clinical conditions.
