A tooth-bearing mandible fossil of a colobine monkey discovered at Shuitangba, Zhaotong, Yunnan, China, was morphometrically analyzed and compared with extant Asian colobines. Our previous qualitative and quantitative descriptions indicate that it can be safely attributed to Mesopithecus pentelicus, a Miocene fossil colobine widely found in Europe and South Asia. The present research aims to explore fossil association with extant colobines and functionally propose its dietary preferences based on multivariate morphometric analyses of mandibular morphology.

Objective: Due to the limited operating space in the magnetic resonance (MR) environment, there is coupled motion in the insertion mechanism, which not only reduces the flexibility of the robot but also challenges the insertion path planning. Meanwhile, the path planning is also restricted by the bending rule of the flexible needle, thus the bending model of the needle is also essentially built.

Approach: This paper proposes a path planner for the flexible needle based on both the coupled motion kinematics of the insertion robot and the bending model of the flexible needle.

Most of the existing SERS systems failed to achieve satisfactory results in early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease owing to a lack of effective signal transduction. Herein, we developed a dual signal amplification strategy for SERS detection of amyloid-β oligomers based on proximity hybridization-triggered catalyzed hairpin assembly (CHA) and hybridization chain reaction (HCR). In the presence of the target protein and two DNA-labeled antibodies, a proximate complex formed in a homogeneous solution.

The accurate identification of traffic loads acting on bridges provides an effective basis for the traffic control and operation of in-service bridges. To improve the efficiency and accuracy of loading identification, we propose an efficient multiparameter identification method with a Legendre neural network (LNN) for the monitoring of traffic loads across the full spatiotemporal domain. Compared to conventional studies that suffer from ill-posed problems and neural network-based means that lack a physically interpretable model, with the proposed strategy, both the explicit expression and time histories of the traffic load can be simultaneously obtained.

TiMn based multinary alloys make full use of the high abundance of rare earth resources in attractive applications of hydrogen storage but suffer from mediocre hydrogen ab/desorption kinetics and lack the in-depth mechanism analysis of hydrogenation/dehydrogenation behavior. Herein, on the basis of current research on compositional modulation, we utilize the low-cost powder metallurgy method to prepare TiZrMnCrV (x = -0.05, 0, 0.

Purpose: Kidney transplantation is the optimal therapy for end-stage renal disease, but pre-transplant malignancy (PTM) is a concern due to the increased risk of cancer recurrence with immunosuppression. While advancements in immunosuppression and cancer treatments have improved kidney recipient and graft survival, the impact of PTM on survival remains unclear and warrants comprehensive assessment.

Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • Soil water deficit significantly impacts peanut yield and quality throughout all growth stages, primarily reducing pod numbers and weights.
  • The study investigated both common and high oleic acid peanut varieties, finding that drought-sensitive varieties showed a notable decrease in oil accumulation and altered fatty acid composition.
  • Results indicated that the disruption in enzyme activities related to oil synthesis was linked to lower oil content and lipid quality, particularly in the high oleic acid variety, emphasizing the need for strategies to improve peanut resilience in water-stressed conditions.

To address the conservative excavator working device configuration obtained by traditional design methods, a lightweight structure design method was proposed in this study based on automatically generated surrogate model. A finite element model of the working device was first constructed, and its accuracy was verified against experimental results. By incorporating the Gini coefficient to compute the information entropy pertaining to the relationship between variables and responses, the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method has been significantly enhanced.

Background: Saturated biopsy is widely used in a histopathological examination of prostate biopsy surgery by expanding the target regions and the increasing the number of insertions.

Methods: The paper proposed a path planning algorithm for multiple targets with a single entry for a cannula flexible needle with variable curvatures. The algorithm is based on modified rapidly-exploring random trees (RRTs), and the variable-curvature motions of the flexible needle are used to achieve optimal path.

Aimed at addressing the problem of azimuth measurement of a short-range target with a pulsed laser, a new, to our knowledge, azimuth measurement method based on a single-pulse laser beam expanding mechanism is proposed based on the research of the pulse laser dynamic/static azimuth detection method. The echo power equation of single-pulse laser beam expanding short-range detection is derived theoretically. Combined with the spatial geometric distribution of the optical path and the normalized sum-difference angle measurement algorithm of the four-quadrant detector, a single-pulse laser short-range azimuth angle calculation model is established.

The interfacial photothermal-photocatalytic systems can generate clean water while purifying wastewater containing organic pollutants, but the impact of thermal convection on synergistic effects remains unexplored. This paper aims to regulate the thermal convection at the interface to significantly enhance the synergistic effect of interfacial photothermal-photocatalytic systems. A novel heterogeneous structure comprising iron-based metal-organic frameworks and multi-walled carbon nanotubes with a gelatin-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) double network hydrogel (MWCNTs@NM88B/PVA/gelatin hydrogel, denoted as MMH) is developed and employed in the construction of the solar-driven interfacial evaporation (SIE) system.

  • Drought tolerance was compared between two peanut cultivars: Huayu 22 (HY22) showing tolerance and Fuhua 18 (FH18) showing sensitivity, focusing on their physical and biochemical responses to drought stress.
  • Both cultivars experienced leaf wilting and stem bending due to dehydration, with FH18 showing higher levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), indicating more damage.
  • HY22 exhibited better stress management by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities and accumulating protective compounds, while transcriptional analysis revealed significant gene expression differences, especially in HY22, linked to processes like photosynthesis and stress resilience.

  • This study investigates extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in cancer cells, particularly focusing on its role in hydroquinone-induced TK6-HQ malignantly transformed cells, revealing how eccDNA may impact cancer progression and aging processes.
  • Researchers utilized Circle-seq to identify a substantial number of eccDNAs (669,179 total) in the TK6-HQ cells, with a significant number being less than 1000 base pairs, predominantly found on specific chromosomes and containing important genetic elements.
  • By combining DNA analysis and RNA sequencing, the study found that the suppression of a specific eccDNA (eccDNA_DTX1) using CRISPR/Cas9 led to reduced growth

Vaccination is the most effective measure for reducing and preventing influenza and related complications. In this study, we analyzed the mutation trend and the antigen dominant site changes of the amino acid sequence of hemagglutinin subunit 1 (HA1) of human influenza A virus (IAV) in the northern hemisphere from 2012 to 2022. According to the HA1 sequences of A/Darwin/6/2021 (H3N2) and A/Wisconsin/588/2019 (H1N1) recommended by the World Health Organization in the 2022 influenza season in northern hemisphere, we employed the mosaic algorithm to design three Mosaic-HA1 antigens through stepwise substitution.

The CCR4-NOT complex is a major regulator of eukaryotic messenger RNA (mRNA) stability. Slow decoding during translation promotes association of CCR4-NOT with ribosomes, accelerating mRNA degradation. We applied selective ribosome profiling to further investigate the determinants of CCR4-NOT recruitment to ribosomes in mammalian cells.
