The integration of anionic TiL (L = embonate) cages and π-conjugated coordination cations into ordered structures can produce high-performance nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. More specifically, by employing TiL cages for assembly with mixed ,-chelated and ,-chelated type conjugated organic ligands and Ag ions, three cage-based structures have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Among them, an ion pair structure with strong π-π accumulation exhibits a significant third-order NLO response, and an excellent optical limiting effect has been experimentally verified.

Anionic Ti L (L=embonate) cage can be used as a 4-connecting crystal engineering tecton, and its optical resolution was achieved, thus homochiral ΔΔΔΔ- and ΛΛΛΛ-[Ti L ] cages were obtained. Accordingly, a pair of homochiral cage-based microporous frameworks (PTC-236(Δ) and PTC-236(Λ)) were easily prepared by a post-assembly reaction.

Here, the antiviral activity of these four derivatives was detected, leading to the discovery of compound P-2, which possessed a superior potency to the lead compound DB02 against wild-type HIV-1 and a variety of HIV-resistant mutant viruses significantly. Furthermore, the water solubility of P-2 was nearly 17 times higher than that of DB02, and the pharmacokinetic test in rats showed that P-2 demonstrate significantly improved oral bioavailablity of 14.

Although many efforts have been made to combat ZIKV infection, there is currently no approved vaccines or antiviral drugs available and there is an urgent need to develop effective anti-ZIKV agents. In this study, 26 acetylarylamine--DACOs derivatives were prepared, and eight of them were found to have inhibitory activity against Zika virus.

By employing ZrL (L = embonate) cages as precursors for assembly with N-containing ligands and Co ions, a new ZrL-Co based chain structure (PTC-318) has been generated through two-step reactions. Interestingly, in the absence of a photosensitizer, PTC-318 exhibits notable photocatalytic activity for H evolution under visible-light irradiation.

Through adjustment of the concentration of Eu salt and changes of the type and molar ratio of the solvent, a series of ZrL-Eu structures with different structure dimensionalities have been synthesized and structurally characterized. In addition, we also studied the optical properties of these materials in detail, including the fluorescent and third-order nonlinear-optical properties.

In this work, a green supramolecular separation process of Ag has been developed by using a highly charged anionic Ti4L6 (L = embonate) cage as the extractant. Such a Ti4L6 cage has unique selectivity toward [Ag(NH3)2]+ ions, because only linear [Ag(NH3)2]+ ions can be trapped into the windows of the Ti4L6 cage, which is demonstrated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
