Photothermal therapy (PTT) demonstrates significant potential in cancer treatment, wound healing, and antibacterial therapy, with its efficacy largely depending on the performance of photothermal agents (PTAs). Metal-phenolic network (MPN) materials are ideal PTA candidates due to their low cost, good biocompatibility and excellent ligand-to-metal charge transfer properties. However, not all MPNs exhibit significant photothermal properties, and the vast chemical space of MPNs (over 700,000 potential combinations) complicates the screening of high-photothermal materials.

Thyroid diseases are increasingly prevalent, posing significant challenges to patients' quality of life and placing substantial financial burdens on families and society. Despite these impacts, the underlying pathophysiology of many thyroid conditions remains poorly understood, complicating efforts in treatment, management, and prevention. Observational studies can identify associations between exposure variables and disease; however, they often struggle to account for confounding factors and reverse causation.

Collecting fog water is crucial for dry areas since natural moisture and fog are significant sources of freshwater. Sustainable and energy-efficient water collection systems can take a page out of the cactus's playbook by mimicking its native fog gathering process. Inspired by the unique geometric structure of the cactus spine, we fabricated a bioinspired artificial fog collector consisting of cactus spines featuring barbs of different sizes and angles on the surfaces for water collection and a series of microcavities within microchannels inspired by Nepenthes Alata on the bottom to facilitate water flowing to the reservoir.

Immunomodulation in biotechnological processes requires an adequate level of specific, high-affinity recombinant antibodies expressed in the affected cells. Here, we report a new strategy to obtain a sensitive nanobody against the 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) herbicide. Unlike the previous methods that used total peripheral blood lymphocytes, specific peripheral lymphocytes stained with a fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled 2,4-D coating antigen were isolated via fluorescence-activated cell sorting and used for phage display library construction.

  • Transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) is becoming popular for thyroid surgery due to its minimally invasive nature and better cosmetic outcomes compared to traditional surgery.
  • Most existing research on TORT is limited to small case studies or single-center reports, and there are currently no established clinical guidelines for its use.
  • In response, a panel of experts in China has created a consensus document for TORT and related procedures to standardize practices and provide guidance based on recent literature and clinical experiences.

  • Human activity and climate change are major contributors to the decline and potential extinction of the Reeves's pheasant, leading to its designation as a nationally protected species in China.
  • A study utilized habitat suitability models and various environmental data to predict the bird's habitat changes from 1995 to 2050, revealing significant habitat loss due to land use and climate change, with projections showing a potential loss of 89.58% of its habitat.
  • To mitigate these threats, it is recommended to enhance cooperation among government entities, restore degraded habitats, and establish ecological corridors to support the bird's population.

  • The study aimed to improve surgical outcomes for patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism by investigating effective diagnostic methods for locating parathyroid glands before surgery.
  • A retrospective analysis of 710 patients revealed that using Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT fusion imaging in combination with ultrasound significantly enhanced gland detection rates compared to using either method alone.
  • The results indicated a high incidence of ectopic parathyroid glands, particularly in the left lower region, highlighting the importance of detailed anatomical understanding for successful surgical interventions.

Individuals with autistic traits (AT) are widely distributed in the general population. Strengthening understanding of AT can provide a broader perspective for autism research as well as more accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans for clinical practice. Previous studies on attention bias among high-AT individuals have yielded inconsistent results, which may relate to different stages of attention.

Accurately mapping ground-level ozone concentrations at high spatiotemporal resolution (daily, 1 km) is essential for evaluating human exposure and conducting public health assessments. This requires identifying and understanding a proxy that is well-correlated with ground-level ozone variation and available with spatiotemporal high-resolution data. This study introduces a high-resolution ozone modeling method utilizing the XGBoost algorithm with satellite-derived land surface temperature (LST) as the primary predictor.

  • Zexie-Baizhu Decoction (AA) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used for metabolic disorders, particularly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but its mechanisms on gut and fat tissue are not fully understood.
  • The study aimed to explore how AA impacts gut and adipose tissue homeostasis in the context of NAFLD using various scientific methods, including RNA sequencing and lipidomics.
  • Results showed that AA significantly reduced liver damage and fat accumulation by promoting healthy gut bacteria, restoring bile acid and short-chain fatty acid levels, and activating specific receptors in adipose tissue that help break down fats.

Renal fibrosis serves as the shared pathway in chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression towards end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a vital mechanism leading to the generation of myofibroblasts, thereby contributing to the advancement of fibrogenesis. Baculoviral IAP Repeat Containing 3(Birc3) was identified as a crucial inhibitor of cell death and a significant mediator in inflammatory signaling and immunity.

Manganese-based materials are considered as one of the most promising cathodes in zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) for large-scale energy storage applications owing to their cost-effectiveness, natural availability, low toxicity, multivalent states, high operation voltage, and satisfactory capacity. However, their intricate energy storage mechanisms coupled with unsatisfactory cycling stability hinder their commercial applications. Previous reviews have primarily focused on optimization strategies for achieving high capacity and fast reaction kinetics, while overlooking capacity fluctuation and lacking a systematic discussion on strategies to enhance the cycling stability of these materials.

Objective: It has been observed that the prognosis of patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer has improved significantly with HER2-targeted agents. However, there is still a lack of evidence regarding first-line anti-HER2 treatment options for patients who have received adjuvant and/or neoadjuvant trastuzumab for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer. Besides, there are no reliable markers that can predict the efficacy of anti-HER2 treatment in these patients.
