Article Synopsis
  • Sarcoidosis and atherosclerosis both involve systemic inflammation, and endocan serves as a marker for vascular issues related to inflammation and endothelial dysfunction.
  • A study evaluated 53 sarcoidosis patients (without traditional cardiovascular risks) against 40 healthy controls, measuring serum endocan levels and brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) to assess endothelial function.
  • Results showed that sarcoidosis patients had higher endocan levels and significantly lower FMD, indicating a possible link between sarcoidosis, endothelial dysfunction, and early-stage atherosclerosis.

Aortic cross-clamping-induced ischemia-reperfusion (IR) is an important factor in the development of postoperative acute cardiac injury following abdominal aortic surgery. We investigated the possible anti-oxidant/anti-inflammatory effects of fluoxetine (FLX), which is used widely as a preoperative anxiolytic on cardiac injury induced by IR of the infrarenal abdominal aorta. FLX was administered to IR-performed (60 min of ischemia and 120 min of reperfusion) rats for 3 days, once daily at 20 mg/kg i.

It is well known that in vitro storage lesions lead to membrane dysfunction and decreased number of functional erythrocytes. As erythrocytes get older, in storage media as well as in peripheral circulation, they undergo a variety of biochemical changes. In our study, the erythrocytes with different age groups in citrate phosphate dextrose adenine-formula 1 (CPDA-1) storage solution were used in order to investigate the possible effect of gender factor on oxidative damage.

Experimental studies indicate that sepsis causes remote organ injury although the molecular mechanism has not been clearly defined. In this report, the role of oxidative damage, and inflammation on lung injury, following sepsis model by cecal ligation and puncture, and the effects of quercetin, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory flavonoid, in the lung tissue were investigated. In the present study, we found that administration of single-dose quercetin before cecal ligation and puncture procedure, while markedly diminishing the levels of YKL-40 and oxidant molecules (xanthine oxidase (XO), nitric oxide (NO), and malondialdehyde (MDA)), increases the antioxidant enzymes levels.

Background And Aim: Since renalase is mostly expressed in kidney tubules, simple renal cyst (SRC) originates from the kidney tubules, and both conditions are related to hypertension, it may be possible that SRC is associated with increased renalase levels. Therefore, in the current study we aimed to confirm the relation between renalase and epinephrine levels, the association between SRC and renalase levels and the association between renalase, blood pressure levels and endothelial dysfunction.

Materials And Methods: We made a cross-sectional study including 75 patients with SRC, and 51 controls were included to the study.

Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) has been reported to be associated with augmented reactive oxygen radicals and cytokines. Currently, we aimed to examine the influence of fluoxetine, which is already used as a preoperative anxiolytic, in the context of IR induced by occlusion of infrarenal abdominal aorta (60 min of ischemia) and its effects on renal oxidative status, inflammation, renal function, and cellular integrity in reperfusion (120 min post-ischemia). Male rats were randomly assigned as control, IR, and pretreated groups.
