Brightening dark excitons in transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers (MLs) can provide large-area ultrathin devices for applications in quantum information science and optoelectronics. For practical applications of dark excitons, a robust and bright emission over a wide area at room temperature is desirable; however, no reliable approach has been demonstrated thus far. In this study, an efficient approach is presented for brightening dark excitons at room temperature over a large area of a WSe ML via coupling between plasmons and dark excitons.

Atomic sawtooth surfaces have emerged as a versatile platform for growth of single-crystal van der Waals layered materials. However, the mechanism governing the formation of single-crystal atomic sawtooth metal (copper or gold) films on hard substrates (tungsten or molybdenum) remains a puzzle. In this study, we aim to elucidate the formation mechanism of atomic sawtooth metal films during melting-solidification process.

Use of a template triggers an epitaxial interaction with the depositing material during synthesis. Recent studies have demonstrated that two-dimensional tellurium (tellurene) can be directionally oriented when grown on transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) templates. Specifically, employing a T-phase TMD, such as WTe, restricts the growth direction even further due to its anisotropic nature, which allows for the synthesis of well-oriented tellurene films.

Recently, 2D semiconductor-based optoelectronic memory has been explored to overcome the limitations of conventional von Neumann architectures by integrating optical sensing and data storage into one device. Persistent photocurrent (PPC), essential for optoelectronic memory, originates from charge carrier trapping according to the Shockley-Read-Hall (SRH) model in 2D semiconductors. The quasi-Fermi level position influences the activation of charge-trapping sites.

Objective: Little empirical evidence exists to support the effectiveness of hybrid psychiatric care, defined as care delivered through a combination of telephone, videoconferencing, and in-person visits. The authors aimed to investigate the effectiveness of hybrid psychiatric care compared with outpatient waitlist groups, assessed with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).

Method: Participants were recruited from an adult psychiatry clinic waitlist on which the most common primary diagnoses were unipolar depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and bipolar disorder.

Article Synopsis
  • The performance of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) relies heavily on the dielectric constant of the substrates they are placed on, which limits their use in various applications.
  • A solution was developed using a low surface energy perfluorinated polyether (PFPE) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) to increase the distance between TMDCs and their substrates, reducing interactions.
  • This approach led to improved device characteristics, such as lower subthreshold swing, higher photoluminescence intensity of excitons, and reduced substrate doping effects, thereby enhancing the potential applications of TMDCs.

Background: Measurement-Based Care (MBC) is an evidence-based practice shown to enhance patient care. Despite being efficacious, MBC is not commonly used in practice. While barriers and facilitators of MBC implementation have been described in the literature, the type of clinicians and populations studied vary widely, even within the same practice setting.

Objective: Community belongingness has been shown to be related to mental health outcomes in college students; however, little work has evaluated whether community belongingness impacts treatment change, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when social isolation and mental health concerns are exacerbated. Accordingly, the current study evaluated community belongingness as a predictor of treatment change for anxiety and depression in a university counseling center.

Method: Participants included 516 young adults with clinical levels of anxiety or depression who attended at least two individual therapy sessions at a university counseling center during fall 2020.

Growth of 2D van der Waals layered single-crystal (SC) films is highly desired not only to manifest the intrinsic physical and chemical properties of materials, but also to enable the development of unprecedented devices for industrial applications. While wafer-scale SC hexagonal boron nitride film has been successfully grown, an ideal growth platform for diatomic transition metal dichalcogenide (TMdC) films has not been established to date. Here, the SC growth of TMdC monolayers on a centimeter scale via the atomic sawtooth gold surface as a universal growth template is reported.

Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures exhibit novel physical and chemical properties, allowing the development of unprecedented electronic, optical, and electrochemical devices. However, the construction of wafer-scale vdW heterostructures for practical applications is still limited due to the lack of well-established growth and transfer techniques. Herein, we report a method for the fabrication of wafer-scale 2D vdW heterostructures with an ultraclean interface between layers via the aid of a freestanding viscoelastic polymer support layer (VEPSL).

Although polycrystalline hexagonal boron nitride (PC-hBN) has been realized, defects and grain boundaries still cause charge scatterings and trap sites, impeding high-performance electronics. Here, we report a method of synthesizing wafer-scale single-crystalline hBN (SC-hBN) monolayer films by chemical vapor deposition. The limited solubility of boron (B) and nitrogen (N) atoms in liquid gold promotes high diffusion of adatoms on the surface of liquid at high temperature to provoke the circular hBN grains.
