Ninety-nine patients with a variety of specific and non-specific vaginitis were treated initially with a broad spectrum anti-microbial agent (AVC cream) in an effort to alleviate the acute symptoms of these problems even before specific organisms could be isolated. Diagnostic methods are discussed for Candida albicans and trichomonas vaginalis which could be employed in routine office practice. This agents advantage in being effective against almost all known pathogens, is offset by its some-what limited effectiveness against trichomoniasis.
