Clinical implications of diffuse hepatic uptake observed in postablative and post-therapeutic I-131 scans.

Diffuse hepatic uptake of I-131 either on diagnostic or post-therapeutic scans is a usual finding in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency and clinical significance of diffuse hepatic uptake of radioiodine on post-therapeutic (PT) and postablative (PA) whole-body scans.A total of 720 PA and 172 PT I-131 scans in a total of 732 patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma were retrospectively reviewed.
