Recent studies have suggested that autistic perception can be attributed to atypical Bayesian inference; however, it remains unclear whether the atypical Bayesian inference originates in the perceptual or post-perceptual stage or both. This study examined serial dependence in orientation at the perceptual and response stages in autistic and neurotypical adult groups. Participants comprised 17 autistic and 23 neurotypical adults.

Comprehensive assessment of the impact of blood pressure, body mass index, smoking, and diabetes on healthy life expectancy in Japan: NIPPON DATA90.

Background: Healthy life expectancy (HLE) is a population health indicator that is widely used in developed countries, but little is known about its relationships with combinations of non-communicable disease risk factors. This study was conducted to examine HLE at age 65 according to combinations of blood pressure levels, body mass index, smoking status, and diabetes mellitus (DM) in a Japanese population.

Methods: In a nationwide cohort study (NIPPON DATA90), data on these risk factors were obtained from participants in 1990 through physical examinations, blood tests, interviews, and questionnaires.

There is a need for novel field-friendly, cost-effective genetic techniques. This study conducted an exome-wide analysis of a total of 42 chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) across six African regions, providing insights into population discrimination techniques.

Pathological complete response after chemotherapy in initially unresectable distal cholangiocarcinoma.

Surgical resection is the only curative treatment for cholangiocarcinoma, but it is often diagnosed at advanced stages, making surgical resection infeasible. Recently, the concept of conversion surgery has expanded the indications for surgical treatment, thanks to advancements in both perioperative management and chemotherapy. However, it remains unclear which patients benefit most from this treatment strategy.

[Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Bladder Ultrasound Imaging Devices in Radiation Therapy].

Purpose: In radiation therapy for prostate cancer, bladder ultrasound diagnostic devices are utilized. However, the performance of all devices has not been fully evaluated. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of three devices-Lilium IP200 (IP200; Lilium Otsuka, Kanagawa), CubeScan BioCon-900S (900S; JCT, Hiroshima), and BVI 6100 (BVI 6100; Verathon, Bothell, WA, USA)-as tools for measuring bladder volume.

SGLT2 inhibitors show promise in reducing hospitalization for heart failure in diabetics, but their long-term effects and time-dependency remain unclear. We conducted a retrospective nested case-control study within a large type 2 diabetic cohort (n = 11,209) using electronic health records. Cases (heart failure hospitalization, n = 352) were matched to controls (n = 1372) based on age, sex, cohort entry date, and diabetes duration.

Highly Ordered Bimodal Mesoporous Carbon from ABC Triblock Terpolymers with Phenolic Resol.

Mesoporous carbons (MPCs) with a bimodal distribution of pore diameters are more advantageous than their monomodal counterparts for applications in adsorption, catalysis, and drug delivery systems; however, reports on their fabrication remain limited. In this study, we successfully fabricated bimodal MPCs using a soft template method with poly(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl methacrylate) (PTFEMA)--poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP)--polystyrene (PS) and resol. The blend samples formed microphase-separated structures comprising PTFEMA spheres, PS cylinders, and matrix domains composed of P4VP and resol, leading to the separation of the PTFEMA and PS domains.

Application of glucose to prepare Aspergillus oryzae koji as an adjunct to prevent rancidity in cheese products.

Koji made using Aspergillus oryzae shows potential for application as a cheese adjunct; however, flavor defects resulting from volatile free fatty acid (FFA) accumulation should be avoided. Hence, a modified glucose-containing whey solid medium was used to culture A. oryzae AHU 7139, and the triacylglycerol (TG) lipase activity and lipase gene (tglA and mdlB) expression were compared with those of a culture using a conventional whey solid medium.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic hepatitis (MASH) is a chronic progressive liver disease that is highly prevalent worldwide. MASH is characterized by hepatic steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis, and liver damage, which eventually result in liver dysfunction due to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying MASH progression remain largely unknown.

Small-angle X-ray scattering analysis of poly(amic acid) dispersed in a liquid matrix to understand the size control of polyimide nanoparticles.

Poly(amic ‍acid) ‍nanoparticles ‍prepared ‍by ‍‍precipitation ‍polymerization with a dispersant were evaluated by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The particle size evaluation of poly(amic acid) nanoparticles in the liquid phase by SAXS was performed to gain insight into the size control of poly(amic acid) nanoparticles, and showed good agreement with visual observation by FE-SEM, explaining the effect of the dispersant in obtaining polyimide nanoparticles with small particle size. This indicates that the particle size is maintained without change during the solvent evaporation process.

Integrating surgical complexity and nutritional parameters to enhance prediction of postoperative complications in liver resection.

Background: In patients undergoing liver resection, postoperative complications remain high. We hypothesized that the incidence of postoperative complications after liver resection would be predicted well by liver resection complexity and nutritional status.

Methods: We retrospectively assessed patients undergoing liver resection at The University of Tokyo Hospital from 2011 to 2021.

Demonstration of shape analysis of neutron resonance transmission spectrum measured with a laser-driven neutron source.

Laser-driven neutron sources (LDNSs) can generate strong short-pulse neutron beams, which are valuable for scientific studies and engineering applications. Neutron resonance transmission analysis (NRTA) is a nondestructive technique used for determining the areal density of each nuclide in a material sample using pulsed thermal and epithermal neutrons. Herein, we report the first successful NRTA performed using an LDNS driven by the Laser for Fast Ignition Experiment at the Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University.

Background: The deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap is the standard of care in autologous breast reconstruction. The superficial inferior epigastric artery perforator flap (SIEA) is an alternative reconstructive option, with the compromise of less donor-site morbidity but variable perfusion to subscarpal fat zones. Fat necrosis is a known complication from marginal perfusion variability.
