Introduction: Adjustable gastric banding (AGB) used to be a popular bariatric procedure. However, it fails in more than half of those operated on in the long term, becomes ineffective and must be removed. Therefore, the use of AGB has been in decline globally.

The incidence of explosions in large agglomerations is high even during peacetime and continues rising. Blast syndrome injuries are complex, with shock wave causing severe injuries of multiple organ systems. In situations with large numbers of injured persons, effective triage allows an early diagnosis and treatment of the highest number of victims.

Experimental analyses of TR secondary structure using DMS-Map Seq and SHAPE-Map Seq techniques show its CLOSED conformation as the consensus structure where the template region cannot perform its function. Our data show that the apparent discrepancy between experimental results and predicted TR functional conformation, mostly ignored in published studies, can be explained using data analysis based on single-molecule structure prediction from individual sequencing reads by the recently established DaVinci method.

Several possible types of surgical intervention are available but to date, none of them have clearly shown superiority. This study aims to compare different surgical approaches.

For that reason, TRAIL has been extensively studied as a target of cancer therapy. In spite of the promising preclinical observations, the TRAIL-based therapies in humans have certain limitations.

Background And Aim: Placental Growth Factor (PlGF) plays a crucial role in angiogenesis and was identified as a potential prognostic biomarker in various types of cancer. Therefore, we evaluated the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value of PlGF serum concentration in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
Patients And Methods: A total of 49 patients subjected to partial or radical nephrectomy for ccRCC [localized without relapse (lccRCC; n=31), localized with later relapse (rccRCC; n=8), primary metastatic cancer (mccRCC; n=10); median of follow-up 4.

Babesiosis is a tick-borne disease that may exhibit a broad range of clinical manifestations. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Babesia species belong to the most common transfusion-transmitted pathogens (FDA, May 2019), but the awareness of the disease caused by these parasitic protists is still low. In immunocompromised patients, the clinical course of babesiosis may be of extreme severity and may require hospital admission.

Genes encoding 45S ribosomal RNA (rDNA) are known for their abundance within eukaryotic genomes and for their unstable copy numbers in response to changes in various genetic and epigenetic factors. Commonly, we understand as epigenetic factors (affecting gene expression without a change in DNA sequence), namely DNA methylation, histone posttranslational modifications, histone variants, RNA interference, nucleosome remodeling and assembly, and chromosome position effect. All these were actually shown to affect activity and stability of rDNA.

The conventional treatment strategies for advanced or recurrent RCC are not efficient and show considerable toxicities. Adoptive cell transfer (ACT) has become a promising treatment option for multiple cancers, particularly in combination with other therapeutic approaches.

Here, we examine the role of RAD51 and its antagonist, RTEL1, in the moss Physcomitrella patens. In corresponding mutants, we analyse their sensitivity to DNA damage, the maintenance of telomeres and rDNA, and repair of double-stranded breaks (DSBs) induced by genotoxins with various modes of action.

The aim of this study was to find a link between the urinary excretion of amino acids and the presence of urological tumors.
Materials And Methods: Using ion-exchange chromatography, we tested urine samples of patients with prostate cancer (n=30), urinary bladder cancer (n=28), renal cell carcinoma (n=16) and healthy volunteers (control group; n=21).
Approximately seven hundred 45S rRNA genes (rDNA) in the Arabidopsis thaliana genome are organised in two 4 Mbp-long arrays of tandem repeats arranged in head-to-tail fashion separated by an intergenic spacer (IGS). These arrays make up 5 % of the A. thaliana genome.

Glyoxalase I (GLO1) is an enzyme which detoxifies advanced glycation end product (AGE) precursors. The aim of the study was to find out the relationship between four polymorphisms (single nucleotide polymorphism, SNP) of the RAGE gene (AGER) and one SNP of the GLO1 gene and clear cell renal cancer (ccRCC).
