Objective: The efficacy of tumor necrosis factor inhibitors for treating chronic low-back pain with Modic changes is uncertain. This study investigated the superiority of infliximab over placebo in patients with Modic type 1 changes.
Methods: In this multicenter, randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial, patients aged 18 to 65 years with moderate to severe chronic low-back pain and Modic type 1 changes were enrolled from five Norwegian public hospitals between January 2019 and October 2022.
Introduction: There is significant public health interest towards providing medical care at mass-gathering events. Furthermore, mass gatherings have the potential to have a detrimental impact on the availability of already-limited municipal Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources. This study presents a cross-sectional descriptive analysis to report broad trends regarding patients who were transported from National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 collegiate football games at a major public university in order to better inform emergency preparedness and resource planning for mass gatherings.

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) enable efficient delivery of mRNA constructs, but protein expression has been assumed to be limited to the liver. With specialized LNPs, delivery to extrahepatic tissue occurs in small animal models; however, it is unclear if global delivery of mRNA to all major organs is possible in humans because delivery may be affected by differences in innate immune response and relative organ size.

Background: Polytrauma results in systemic inflammation and increased circulating fibrinogen, which increases the risk of microvascular and macrovascular thrombosis that contributes to secondary organ damage and venous thromboembolism (VTE). There are no clinically approved agents to prevent hyperfibrinogenemia after polytrauma. We hypothesized that preventing the increase in fibrinogen levels after polytrauma would suppress thrombosis.

A total of 123 adults with radiating pain below the knee (≥4 on a 0-10 numeric rating scale) and signs consistent with nerve root involvement were included. Participants were randomized to receive either naproxen 500 mg or a placebo twice daily for 10 days.

Genetic manipulation of animal models is a fundamental research tool in biology and medicine but is challenging in large animals. In rodents, models can be readily developed by knocking out genes in embryonic stem cells or by knocking down genes through delivery of nucleic acids. Swine are a preferred animal model for studying the cardiovascular and immune systems, but there are limited strategies for genetic manipulation.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether self-screening for nutritional risk prior to surgery is feasible in a home setting and if it will increase number of patients screened for nutritional risk, and secondly, to compare their screening results with the "in-hospital assessments" conducted by healthcare professionals.
Materials And Methods: This was a prospective study involving patients from six randomly selected surgical wards at two Norwegian hospitals as a part of the "Feasibility study of implementing the surgical Patient Safety Checklist the (PASC)".
Background: The clinical significance of kidney transplant protocol biopsies has been debated. We studied the frequency of borderline changes and T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR) in 1-y protocol biopsies in standard risk kidney transplant recipients.
Methods: Consecutive non-HLA-sensitized recipients of kidney transplants between 2006 and 2017, who underwent a protocol biopsy at 1 y in 2 national transplant centers were studied retrospectively (N = 1546).
Lead-free BiFeO-BaTiO (BF-BT) piezoceramics have sparked considerable interest in recent years due to their high piezoelectric performance and high Curie temperature. In this paper, we show how the addition of highly aligned porosity (between 40 and 60 vol %) improves the piezoelectric performance, sensing, and energy harvesting figures of merit in freeze-cast 0.70BiFeO-0.

The present study was designed to explore the surgical teams' perceptions of patient safety culture, capture their perceptions of the risk for adverse events, and identify themes of interest for quality improvement within the surgical department.
Methods: This qualitative study had an explorative design with an abductive approach.
The Norwegian standard for the safe practice of anaesthesia was first published in 1991, and revised in 1994, 1998, 2005, 2010 and 2016 respectively. The 1998 version was published in English for the first time in Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica in 2002. It must be noted that this is a national standard, reflecting the specific opportunities and challenges in a Norwegian setting, which may be different from other countries in some respects.

These highly reactive nitrenium ions cannot be measured in vivo. Instead, deactivated cysteinyl conjugates may potentially be detected.

While the consequences of humidity during solid-state processing of sodium potassium niobate-based lead-free piezoelectric powders are well established, the effect of humidity at later fabrication steps is less known. This study assesses the effect of humidity on the sintering and functional properties of 0.06LiNbO3-0.

Objective: To assess whether or not reduced MC edema over time is related to reduced disability and pain in patients with chronic low back pain (LBP).
Summary Of Background Data: It is not clear whether or not reduced MC edema implies improved clinical outcomes.
A sharp rise in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) prevalence estimates, beginning in the 1990s, suggested factors additional to genetics were at play. This stimulated increased research investment in nongenetic factors, including the study of environmental chemical exposures, diet, nutrition, lifestyle, social factors, and maternal medical conditions. Consequently, both peer- and non-peer-reviewed bodies of evidence investigating environmental contributors to ASD etiology have grown significantly.

Thus, the purpose of this meta-analysis was to summarize the data on the effect of free-weight versus machine-based strength training on maximal strength, jump height and hypertrophy.

Physical education (PE) is one subject that has traditionally been linked to health outcomes. However, a narrow focus on increased physical activity as the main outcome of PE could be counterproductive in the pursuit of health.

Key domains of CHL are information appraisal, understanding social determinants of health, and abilities to act on determinants of health. Patient safety culture (PSC) is an indicator of quality in healthcare services and is thus perceived as a proxy for the quality of care. Previous studies show variation in the association between PSC scores and AE rates.

Existing evidence indicates that patients' involvement in their own safety has positive effects on reducing hospitalisation time and readmissions. Using single-center data (N = 4055; median [quartiles] follow-up: 18 [9-28] y), we developed a calculator for postdonation hypertension and validated it using long-term data from an external single-center cohort (N = 1189, median [quartiles] follow-up: 9 [5-17] y).
Methods: Risk factors considered were routinely obtained at evaluation from donor candidates.
The electrical properties of pristine fluoropolymers are inferior due to their low polar crystalline phase content and rigid dipoles that tend to retain their fixed moment and orientation. Several strategies, such as electrospinning, electrohydrodynamic pulling, and template-assisted growing, have been proven to enhance the electrical properties of fluoropolymers; however, these techniques are mostly very hard to scale-up and expensive. Here, a facile interfacial engineering approach based on amine-functionalized graphene oxide (AGO) is proposed to manipulate the intermolecular interactions in poly(vinylidenefluoride-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) to induce β-phase formation, enlarge the lamellae dimensions, and align the micro-dipoles.
