Smart hospital: achieving interoperability and raw data collection from medical devices in clinical routine.

Introduction: Today, modern technology is used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. These medical devices provide exact measures and raw data such as imaging data or biosignals. So far, the Broad Integration of These Health Data into Hospital Information Technology Structures-Especially in Germany-is Lacking, and if data integration takes place, only non-Evaluable Findings are Usually Integrated into the Hospital Information Technology Structures.

Somatic gene editing ameliorates skeletal and cardiac muscle failure in pig and human models of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Frameshift mutations in the DMD gene, encoding dystrophin, cause Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), leading to terminal muscle and heart failure in patients. Somatic gene editing by sequence-specific nucleases offers new options for restoring the DMD reading frame, resulting in expression of a shortened but largely functional dystrophin protein. Here, we validated this approach in a pig model of DMD lacking exon 52 of DMD (DMDΔ52), as well as in a corresponding patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell model.

Prototype and Chimera-Type Galectins in Placentas with Spontaneous and Recurrent Miscarriages.

Galectins are galactose binding proteins and, in addition, factors for a wide range of pathologies in pregnancy. We have analyzed the expression of prototype (gal-1, -2, -7, -10) and chimera-type (gal-3) galectins in the placenta in cases of spontaneous abortions (SPA) and recurrent abortions (RA) in the first trimester. Fifteen placental samples from healthy pregnancies were used as a control group.

The Role of a Primary Arthroplasty in the Treatment of Proximal Tibia Fractures in Orthogeriatric Patients.

The total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the gold standard for patients with an advanced symptomatic gonarthrosis. However, there are very few publications dealing with the primary TKA for patients with a proximal tibia fracture. In our retrospective study we evaluated 30 patients treated with a TKA for a proximal tibia fracture in our institution between 01/2008 and 12/2014.

Enhanced bioavailability of lycopene when consumed as cis-isomers from tangerine compared to red tomato juice, a randomized, cross-over clinical trial.

Scope: Tangerine tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) are rich in tetra-cis-lycopene resulting from natural variation in carotenoid isomerase. Our objective was to compare the bioavailability of lycopene from tangerine to red tomato juice, and elucidate physical deposition forms of these isomers in tomatoes by light and electron microscopy.

Methods And Results: Following a randomized cross-over design, subjects (n = 11, 6 M/5 F) consumed two meals delivering 10 mg lycopene from tangerine (94% cis) or red tomato juice (10% cis).

Problem: Cytokines play a fundamental role at the feto-maternal interface. A dysregulation of the cytokine profile could be linked with fetal rejection. This study investigated differences in the expression of the Th1 cytokine interleukin-15 (IL-15) of normal and disturbed pregnancy.

Pharmacokinetics of gemcitabine in a patient with end-stage renal disease: effective clearance of its main metabolite by standard hemodialysis treatment.

Purpose: Gemcitabine (2',2'-difluorodeoxycytidine) is a cytotoxic agent with a low toxicity profile and proven activity against a number of solid tumors. It is not known whether gemcitabine is safe to administer to patients with kidney failure, and if dose adjustment is necessary. We determined the tolerability and pharmacokinetics of gemcitabine and its noncytotoxic metabolite 2',2'-difluorodeoxyuridine (dFdU) in a patient with end-stage renal disease on maintenance hemodialysis therapy.

Substrate and binding specificity of aspartic proteases with milk clotting properties.

The hydrolysis of whole casein and isolated casein components were investigated with the purpose of obtaining information concerning the kinetic and specifty of aspartic proteases in rennin, pepsin and 4 microbial rennet substitutes. The velocity of hydrolysis decreased rapidly within the first hour. However, the hydrolysis was not completed after 2 days.
