When a supermassive black hole at the centre of a galaxy accretes matter, it gives rise to a highly energetic phenomenon: an active galactic nucleus. Numerous physical processes have been proposed to account for the funnelling of gas towards the galactic centre to feed the black hole. There are also several physical processes that can remove gas from a galaxy, one of which is ram-pressure stripping by the hot gas that fills the space between galaxies in galaxy clusters.

Monitoring of environmental pollutants has become increasingly important due to concern over potential health and environmental impact inflicted by these chemicals. In this contribution, we focus on the development of an all-plastic biosensor comprising laminated single-walled carbon nanotubes as the active element and its conductance modulation in a liquid-gated field effect transistor, as the principle of transduction, for the detection of 2,4-dicholorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) herbicide. The reported biosensor is capable of performing real-time label-free detection of analytes in liquid environment.

Purpose: To asses the use of synthetic or autologous conduits for the reconstruction of iliofemural sector in the cases of partial, limited infections of aortobifemural prosthetic grafts.

Method: We present two cases, both of them with infection recognized at the groin; the first one by a vascular fistula bleeding intermittently, the second by a draining groin sinus with fever and leukocytosis.

Results: The PTFE conduit was the material utilized at the first case and the superficial femoral vein in the second case.

In slices of rat occipital cortex, the influence of phencyclidine and ketamine on the accumulation of 3H-noradrenaline and the subsequent outflow of tritium was investigated, and was compared with the effect of cocaine.--All three drugs inhibited the accumulation of tritium during incubation of the slices with 3H-noradrenaline. Phencyclidine was slightly, whereas ketamine was much less effective than cocaine.

The production of infectious vesicular stomatitis (VSV) and Newcastle disease virus can be completely inhibited by 2-deoxy-d-glucose in pyruvate-containing medium, if virus either grown in pyruvate-containing medium or dialyzed against phosphate-buffered saline is used for infection. Under these conditions, the synthesis of all VSV proteins is reduced. VSV RNA, which is synthesized at reduced rates, seems to be unstable.
