Phenotypic and Molecular Patterns of Resistance among and Isolates, from Pig Farms.

The purpose of this research was to characterize the antibiotic resistance patterns of spp. isolated from commercial farrow to finish farms in Greece, and analyze the relevant molecular resistance mechanisms among the resistant isolates. Susceptibility testing to five different classes of antibiotics was performed in 100 and 100 , previously isolated and identified.

Sleep respiratory parameters in children with idiopathic epilepsy: A cross-sectional study.

Background: The aim of this study is to explore and compare through polysomnography respiratory sleep parameters between children with idiopathic epilepsy and healthy children.

Methods: Our cross-sectional study included 40 children with idiopathic epilepsy and 27 healthy children, who underwent overnight polysomnography. Data about sleep respiratory parameters were obtained and statistically analyzed.

The role of TLR4 and CD14 polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of respiratory syncytial virus bronchiolitis in greek infants.

Clinical manifestations of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection vary from minimal disease to severe acute bronchiolitis. The structural complex of TLR4/CD14 participates in the virus recognition as a component of natural immune response. Genetic variations of TLR4/CD14 may explain great variations in disease severity.

Interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 levels in the urine of children with renal scarring.

Background: Acute pyelonephritis (APN) is one of the most significant bacterial infections in infancy and early childhood, and can lead to permanent kidney damage and chronic renal failure.

Objective: To evaluate interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels in the urine of children with renal scarring (RS), searching for clinical information about the immuno-inflammatory process that contributes to RS.

Methods: Urine concentrations of IL-6 and IL-8 were evaluated in 50 children, 33 with RS detected after an episode of acute pyelonephritis (group A) and 17 children with a history of acute pyelonephritis, but without RS (group B).

Serological survey on the immunity to diphtheria of the northern Greek population.

The recent outbreak of diphtheria in the Newly Independent States (NIS) of the former USSR and the immigration from these high risk areas to Greece prompted us to determine the diphtheria antitoxin levels by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) in 509 healthy individuals (307 males and 202 females) from northern Greece. Kinetics, quantitative analysis and radioimmunolocalization using indium-111-HMFG1 monoclonal antibody in patients with breast cancer.

HMFG1 tumour associated monoclonal antibody IgG1 and F(ab')2 fragments were radiolabelled with indium-111 and used to study patients with breast cancer. In vitro and in vivo stability of the radiolabelled antibodies was shown to be satisfactory. Thirty patients with primary breast cancer underwent tumour resection and quantitative evaluation of the radioactivity in the tumour and normal tissues following administration of specific and non-specific antibodies.
