Simultaneous bilateral proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are infrequent. Particularly rare are cases of PHFs extending to the metadiaphysis accompanied by severe osteoarthritis (OA) of the shoulder. To our knowledge, there have been no reports of bilateral fractures that include metadiaphyseal fractures with severe OA on one side and a PHF on the contralateral side, treated with bilateral reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA).

The key amendment to the Act on the Safety of Regenerative Medicine in June 2024 is regarding on-site inspections and the criteria for disqualifying the Certified Special Committees for Regenerative Medicine and Certified Committees for Regenerative Medicine. Appropriate regulations are needed after the legal amendment to stop the widespread use of unproven interventions and move away from the concept of a "Therapeutic Haven."

Tick saliva modulates host responses during a blood feeding process. We identified a novel chemokine binding protein 1-like (HLCBP1-like) gene from the salivary glands of the Asian longhorned tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis. The HLCBP1-like protein, lacking a well-defined conserved domain, showed structural similarity to evasin, a chemokine binding protein from the brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus.

: Although the indications for reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) are expanding, an improvement in muscle strength in each patient following RSA remains unclear. The objective was to investigate whether or not improvement in muscle strength for shoulder elevation in patients who underwent RSA was influenced by pre- or postoperative deltoid muscle stiffness measured using shear wave elastography (SWE). : Sixty-five patients who underwent RSA over a 12-month follow-up period were included.

Turner and colleagues recently argued that countries with unclear laws and regulations regarding stem cells, exosomes, and other regenerative medicine products should develop and enforce more comprehensive regulatory structures. We fully agree with this opinion and discuss that failure to do so may lead to troubling predicaments, such as the Japanese cases, where patients are at risk of serious complications or even death.

The incorporation of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycle 1,2,5-oxadiazinane into small molecules represents a compelling avenue in drug discovery due to its unexplored behavior within biological systems and incomplete protocols for synthesis. In this study, we present 1,2,5-oxadiazinane, an innovative heterocyclic bioisostere of piperizin-2-one and novel chemotype of the -schistosomal drug praziquantel (PZQ), which has been the only clinical drug available for three decades. PZQ is associated with significant drawbacks, including poor solubility, a bitter taste, and low metabolic stability.

The presence of anti-thyroid antibodies (ATAs) is a biomarker for the development of thyroid dysfunction induced by anti-programmed cell death-1 antibodies (PD-1-Abs). While patients with thyroid dysfunction reportedly showed better overall survival (OS), it remains unknown if ATAs at baseline can predict OS. Therefore, in this study, we examined the association of ATAs at baseline with OS in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with different levels of programmed cell death-1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) positivity associated with PD-1-Ab treatment efficacy.

Infections by gastrointestinal parasites are found in a variety of animals worldwide. For the diagnosis of such infections, the flotation method is commonly used to detect parasitic microorganisms, such as oocysts or eggs, in feces. Instead of adding a flotation solution after the final centrifugation step and using a cover slip to collect the parasites, the method using a wire loop for the recovery of the organisms has been reported as one of alternative methods.

Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) is increasingly being used as a reliable option for various shoulder disorders with deteriorated rotator cuff and glenohumeral joints. The stemless humerus component for shoulder arthroplasties is evolving with theoretical advantages, such as preservation of the humeral bone stock and decreased risk of periprosthetic fractures, as well as clinical research demonstrating less intraoperative blood loss, reduced surgical time, a lower rate of intraoperative fractures, and improved center of rotation restoration. In particular, for anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA), the utilization of stemless humeral implants is gaining consensus in younger patients.

The amyloid plaque is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. The accumulation of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) in the neuronal structure is assumed to lead to amyloid plaque formation through the excessive production of β-amyloid protein. To study the relationship between the neuronal accumulation of APP and amyloid plaque formation, we histologically analyzed their development in the different brain regions in 3xTg-AD mice, which express Swedish mutated APP (APP) in the neurons.

Objective: Periglomerular and granule cells in the adult mammalian olfactory bulb modulate olfactory signal transmission. These cells originate from the subventricular zone, migrate to the olfactory bulb via the Rostral Migratory Stream (RMS), and differentiate into mature cells within the olfactory bulb throughout postnatal life. While the regulation of neuroblast development is known to be affected by external stimuli, there is a lack of information concerning changes that occur during the recovery process after injury caused by external stimuli.

Excessive salt intake is one of the causes of hypertension, and reducing salt intake is important for managing the risk of hypertension and subsequent cardiovascular events. Esaxerenone, a mineralocorticoid receptor blocker, has the potential to exert an antihypertensive effect in hypertensive patients with excessive salt intake, but evidence is still lacking, especially in clinical settings. We aimed to determine if baseline sodium/potassium ratio and baseline estimated 24-h urinary sodium excretion can predict the antihypertensive effect of esaxerenone in patients with essential hypertension inadequately controlled with an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) or a calcium channel blocker (CCB).
