The Association Between Smokeless Tobacco and a Lung Mass in a Healthy Young Male.

Smokeless tobacco is widely used in the United States. Many commonly used forms of smokeless tobacco may contain microorganisms that can change the oral flora of tobacco users. Here we present a case of a previously healthy 21-year-old male who presented with six weeks of worsening cough productive of yellow sputum as well as pleuritic left-sided chest and back pain.

BNT162b2 COVID-19 Vaccine Induced Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) has been reported following vaccinations such as MMR as well as after viral infections such as hepatitis C and HIV. Few case reports have been reported of ITP after COVID-19 infections and COVID-19 vaccines. Herein, we present a patient who presented with severe ITP with a platelet count of 0 after receiving the second dose of the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (also known as the Pfizer BioNTech).

Acute Lower-Extremity Ischemia in a Patient with COVID-19.

BACKGROUND Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which has become a global pandemic. The typical symptoms are fever, cough, and shortness of breath, but the disease can present with atypical signs, including those associated with a hypercoagulable state. These signs include deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, ischemic stroke, and acute coronary syndrome.

Success and limitations of a naked plasmid transfection protocol for keratinocyte growth factor-1 to enhance cutaneous wound healing.

Our group and others have previously reported enhancement of cutaneous wound healing following the transfection of tissue with plasmid vectors expressing the DNA for growth factors. In these experiments, growth factor treated animals were usually compared to animals treated with control plasmid vector. To achieve consistent transfection, high DNA plasmid load and repeated penetrations of the wound by needle or gene gun were required.

We report a case of intrauterine intussusception in a female newborn. Despite the absence of intestinal atresia or any sign of ischemic necrosis, the manual reduction of the intussusception was impossible because of the multiple adhesions developed in the prenatal period. Laparotomy was done at the age of 10 days, the lesion was resected and end-to-end anastomosis was performed.
