We report on the first deployment of a ytterbium (Yb) transportable optical lattice clock (TOLC), commercially shipping the clock 3000 km from Boulder, Colorado, to Washington DC. The system, composed of a rigidly mounted optical reference cavity, an atomic physics package, and an optical frequency comb, fully realizes an independent frequency standard for comparisons in the optical and microwave domains. The shipped Yb TOLC was fully operational within 2 days of arrival, enabling frequency comparison with a rubidium (Rb) fountain at the United States Naval Observatory (USNO).

The emergence of drug resistance to frontline treatments such as Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) is a major obstacle to the control and eradication of malaria. This problem is compounded by the inherent genetic variability of the parasites, as many established markers of resistance do not accurately predict the drug-resistant status. There have been reports of declining effectiveness of ACT in the West Bengal and Northeast regions of India, which have traditionally been areas of drug resistance emergence in the country.

Acute-onset quadriparesis is not only debilitating and a grave concern for the patient but also perturbs the clinician as it demands early diagnosis and prompt management to prevent catastrophic outcome due to respiratory failure. Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and hypokalaemia are notorious causes of acute-onset lower motor neuron (LMN) quadriparesis and warrant a rapid evaluation to necessitate early management. Noncontact thermoacoustic imaging (TAI) has several desirable characteristics for applications such as explosive detection in high-water-content media. In this letter, we report a detection technique using millimeter-wave interferometry based on sensitive phase detection at W -band. The displacement sensitivity of the proposed W -band vibrometer at 95 GHz is of the order of 1 nm.
