Importance: Anecdotal experience raised the possibility that semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) with rapidly increasing use, is associated with nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

Objective: To investigate whether there is an association between semaglutide and risk of NAION.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In a retrospective matched cohort study using data from a centralized data registry of patients evaluated by neuro-ophthalmologists at 1 academic institution from December 1, 2017, through November 30, 2023, a search for International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision code H47.

Comparison of Work Relative Value Units Assigned to Urological and Gynecological Surgical Procedures.

Introduction: We sought to determine if work relative value unit differences exist between analogous, sex-specific procedures.

Methods: Representatives from the AUA and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists independently reviewed the entire procedural code set and identified sex-specific procedures that had an analogous procedure in the opposite sex. These pairs were then evaluated and compared using current American Medical Association Relative Value Scale Update Committee methodology.

Diagnostic yield of genetic testing in a multinational heterogeneous cohort of 2088 DCM patients.

Background: Familial dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) causes heart failure and may lead to heart transplantation. DCM is typically a monogenic disorder with autosomal dominant inheritance. Currently disease-causing variants have been reported in over 60 genes that encode proteins in sarcomeres, nuclear lamina, desmosomes, cytoskeleton, and mitochondria.

Aim: To measure the association between cannabis use disorder (CUD) and adverse cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes.

Design And Setting: We conducted a matched, population-based retrospective cohort study involving five linked administrative health databases from Alberta, Canada.

Participants: We identified participants with CUD diagnosis codes and matched them to participants without CUD codes by gender, year of birth and time of presentation to the health system.

Towards reuse and recycling of lithium-ion batteries: tele-robotics for disassembly of electric vehicle batteries.

Disassembly of electric vehicle batteries is a critical stage in recovery, recycling and re-use of high-value battery materials, but is complicated by limited standardisation, design complexity, compounded by uncertainty and safety issues from varying end-of-life condition. Telerobotics presents an avenue for semi-autonomous robotic disassembly that addresses these challenges. However, it is suggested that quality and realism of the user's haptic interactions with the environment is important for precise, contact-rich and safety-critical tasks.

Developing nitrogen removal models for stormwater bioretention systems.

Bioretention systems have the potential of simultaneous runoff volume reduction and nitrogen removal. Internal water storage (IWS) layers and real-time control (RTC) strategies may further improve performance of bioretention systems. However, optimizing the design of these systems is limited by the lack of effective models to simulate nitrogen transformations under the influences of IWS design and environment conditions including soil moisture and temperature.

Environmental regulations in the United States lead to improvements in untreated stormwater quality over four decades.

Identifying sources of pollutants in watersheds is critical to accurately predicting stormwater quality. Many existing software used to model stormwater quality rely on decades-old data sets which may not represent current runoff quality in the United States. Because of environmental regulations promulgated at the federal level over previous decades, there is a need to understand long-term trends (and potential shifts) in runoff quality to better parameterize models.

Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome in North America: evaluation of health burden and treatment prevalence.

Background: Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) is a poorly understood vomiting disorder associated with chronic cannabis use.

Aims: To characterise patients experiencing CHS in North America and to obtain a population-based estimate of CHS treatment prevalence in Canada before and during the Covid-19 pandemic METHODS: Internet survey of 157 CHS sufferers in Canada and the United States. Administrative health databases for the province of Alberta (population 5 million) were accessed to measure emergency department (ED) visits for vomiting, with a concurrent diagnostic code for cannabis use.

Medical students describe their wellness and how to preserve it.

Background: Despite widespread efforts to create wellness programming in medical schools, there is a paucity of literature examining students' perception of wellness and perceptions of these programs. With the inaugural class at the Arizona campus of Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine (MCASOM-AZ), an opportunity arose to establish an empirically evaluated wellness curriculum that most inclusively and effectively enables medical students to flourish for years to come. The initial wellness offerings included mental health, academic success, and disability services, curriculum-embedded seminars, wellness committee driven programming, and student-proposed wellness activities.

Healthcare team communication training in the United States: A scoping review.

The purpose of this literature review was to identify interventions designed to improve healthcare team communication in the United States. We conducted a review of peer-reviewed, English-language articles describing interventions aimed at improving healthcare team communication. We analyzed articles that met pre-specified inclusion and exclusion criteria and characterized who is testing communication interventions, the rationale for testing, and ways of measuring effectiveness.

We have identified two Finnish families with familial cardiomyopathy that is not explained by a variant in any previously known cardiomyopathy gene. We describe the cardiac phenotype related to homozygous truncating variants.

Vision-Guided MPC for Robotic Path Following Using Learned Memory-Augmented Model.

The control of the interaction between the robot and environment, following a predefined geometric surface path with high accuracy, is a fundamental problem for contact-rich tasks such as machining, polishing, or grinding. Flexible path-following control presents numerous applications in emerging industry fields such as disassembly and recycling, where the control system must adapt to a range of dissimilar object classes, where the properties of the environment are uncertain. We present an end-to-end framework for trajectory-independent robotic path following for contact-rich tasks in the presence of parametric uncertainties.

Operationalising outpatient antimicrobial stewardship to reduce system-wide antibiotics for acute bronchitis.

Background: Antibiotics are not recommended for treatment of acute uncomplicated bronchitis (AUB), but are often prescribed (85% of AUB visits within the Veterans Affairs nationally). This quality improvement project aimed to decrease antibiotic prescribing for AUB in community-based outpatient centres from 65% to <32% by April 2020.

Methods: From January to December 2018, community-based outpatient clinics' 6 months' average of prescribed antibiotics for AUB and upper respiratory infections was 63% (667 of 1054) and 64.

Building resiliency to climate change uncertainty through bioretention design modifications.

Climate stationarity is a traditional assumption in the design of the urban drainage network, including green infrastructure practices such as bioretention cells. Predicted deviations from historic climate trends associated with global climate change introduce uncertainty in the ability of these systems to maintain service levels in the future. Climate change projections are made using output from coarse-scale general circulation models (GCMs), which can then be downscaled using regional climate models (RCMs) to provide predictions at a finer spatial resolution.

Background: Genetic testing in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a published guideline-based recommendation. The diagnostic yield of genetic testing and corresponding HCM-associated genes have been largely documented by single center studies and carefully selected patient cohorts. Our goal was to evaluate the diagnostic yield of genetic testing in a heterogeneous cohort of patients with a clinical suspicion of HCM, referred for genetic testing from multiple centers around the world.

Environmental DNA (eDNA) is gaining traction in conservation ecology as a powerful tool for detecting species at risk. We developed a quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay to detect a DNA amplicon fragment of the mitochondrial nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide locus of the Blanding's turtle () for detecting overwintering individuals. Seventy-eight water samples were collected from 17 wetland sites in Ontario, Canada.

Background: The primary care setting offers an attractive opportunity for, not only the identification of pediatric eating disorders, but also the delivery of evidence-based treatment. However, constraints of this setting pose barriers for implementing treatment. For interventions to be successful, they need to take into consideration the perspectives of stakeholders.

Robotic Sacral Colpopexy Using Autologous Fascia Lata Compared with Mesh.

The objective is to compare robotic sacral colpopexy (RSC) utilizing autologous fascia lata with RSC with synthetic mesh in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP). We performed a prospective nonrandomized case comparison trial at a single institution. We compared RSC utilizing either synthetic mesh or autologous fascia lata in women with symptomatic POP, stages II through IV.

With exposure emerging as a key ingredient in anxiety treatment for childhood anxiety disorders (CADs), expansion of exposure techniques is a promising avenue for improving treatment efficacy. The present study examined use of imaginal exposure (IE), a technique understudied in the treatment of CADs. Specifically, the study tested whether two forms of exposure to worries (verbal IE and virtual reality exposure therapy, VRET) would be effective and acceptable forms of exposure with youth.
