Objective: To characterize anti-VEGF intravitreal therapy (IVT) patterns and long-term visual outcomes among patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) in routine clinical practice in the United States.
Design: Retrospective analysis of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's IRIS® (Intelligent Research in Sight) Registry.
Participants: Treatment-naïve patients with DME (no previous IVT in the past 12 months) initiating anti-VEGF IVT from January 1, 2015, to March 31, 2021.
The non-nutritive suck (NNS) device is a transportable, user-friendly pressure transducer system that quantifies infants' NNS behavior on a pacifier. Recording and analysis of the NNS signal using our system can provide measures of an infant's NNS burst duration (s), amplitude (cmH2O), and frequency (Hz). Accurate, reliable, and quantitative assessment of NNS has immense value in serving as a biomarker for future feeding, speech-language, cognitive, and motor development.

As such, these techniques may be useful following exercise training of high intensity sports, like collegiate football.
Purpose: To evaluate the impact of mindfulness and rest activities on PNS reactivation following training sessions, in a sample of Division-I collegiate, male football athletes.
Purpose: To evaluate disease progression and associated vision changes in patients with geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in 1 eye and GA or neovascular AMD (nAMD) in the fellow eye using a large dataset from routine clinical practice.
Design: Retrospective analysis of clinical data over 24 months.
Subjects: A total of 256 635 patients with GA from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (Academy) IRIS® Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight) Registry (January 2016 to December 2017).
Background: The use of remote visual monitoring (RVM) technology as a "telesitter" in hospitals can reduce falls and increase the efficiency of patient observation.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine RVM effectiveness as a strategy to decrease patient falls and investigate nurses' acceptance and perceived usefulness of RVM technology.
Methods: Remote visual monitoring was implemented within a health system in the Southeastern United States.
Observational studies of diabetic retinopathy (DR) using electronic health record data often determine disease severity using International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes. We investigated the mechanism of missingness for DR severity based on ICD coding using the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS® Registry. We included all patient encounters in the registry with a DR ICD-9 or ICD-10 code between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2021.

However, research that has explored occupational therapists' perspectives on spirituality has found that a lack of education and understanding of the concept means that currently many therapists do not address it in their practice. Existing research focusses on adult clients, and there is no known published research that focusses on occupational therapists working with children and their views on spirituality in clinical practice.

Methods: Participatory Action Research was used, and two stages of focus groups were conducted with 17 occupational therapists working in an acute pediatric hospital. Reflexive thematic analysis was employed for data analysis.
Assistance dogs are a potential intervention for families of children on the autism spectrum to support participation. However, the lived experience of families with new assistance dogs has not previously been explored. This study described the expectations, benefits, and challenges of assistance dog ownership for families of children on the autism spectrum.

We hypothesized that an organizational strategy that includes training, safety incident reporting, and a response protocol would increase HCP knowledge, self-efficacy, and reporting of mistreatment.
Methods: In this single-center, serial, cross-sectional study, we sent an anonymous survey to HCPs before and after the intervention at a 213-bed tertiary care university children's hospital between 2018 and 2019.
Introduction: Dysphagia occurs in up to 50% of patients with acute stroke symptoms, resulting in increased aspiration pneumonia rates and mortality. The purpose of this study was to validate a health system's dysphagia (swallow) screening tool used since 2007 on all patients with suspected stroke symptoms. Annual rates of aspiration pneumonia for ischemic stroke patients have ranged from 2% to 3% since 2007.

Objective: To define distinct patient clinical profiles among the most medically complex patients through clinical interpretation of analytically derived patient clusters.
Objectives: To evaluate the use of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) prophylaxis in US patients with selected metastatic cancers and chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia (FN) incidence and associated outcomes among the subgroup who did not receive prophylaxis.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at four US health systems and included adults with metastatic cancer (breast, colorectal, lung, non-Hodgkin lymphoma [NHL]) who received myelosuppressive chemotherapy (2009-2017). Patients were stratified by FN risk level based on risk factors and chemotherapy (low/unclassified risk, intermediate risk without any risk factors, intermediate risk with ≥ 1 risk factor [IR + 1], high risk [HR]).
Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), an autoimmune disorder characterized by low platelet count, can lead to serious bleeding events. Little is known about the current epidemiology of ITP in the US, and even less is known about the current healthcare burden of ITP, especially in the 12-month period following ITP diagnosis. We used a retrospective cohort design and data from two US private healthcare claims databases (2010-2016) to identify persons with evidence of newly diagnosed ITP.

The objectives of this study were to characterize the incidence, clinical consequences, and economic costs of CIT in current US clinical practice.
Methods: A retrospective cohort design and data from two US private healthcare claims repositories (01/2010-12/2016) were employed.
The quantity and condition of downed dead wood (DDW) is emerging as a major factor governing forest ecosystem processes such as carbon cycling, fire behavior, and tree regeneration. Despite this, systematic inventories of DDW are sparse if not absent across major forest biomes. The Forest Inventory and Analysis program of the United States (US) Forest Service has conducted an annual DDW inventory on all coterminous US forest land since 2002 (~1 plot per 38,850 ha), with a sample intensification occurring since 2012 (~1 plot per 19,425 ha).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDowned coarse woody debris, also known as coarse woody detritus or downed dead wood, is challenging to estimate for many reasons, including irregular shapes, multiple stages of decay, and the difficulty of identifying species. In addition, some properties are commonly not measured, such as wood density and carbon concentration. As a result, there have been few previous evaluations of uncertainty in estimates of downed coarse woody debris, which are necessary for analysis and interpretation of the data.
