Article Synopsis
  • - The Plate Objective Scoring Tool (POST) is effective in assessing the quality of the urethral plate in boys with distal hypospadias and its score has been linked to surgical complications.
  • - A study involving 121 patients showed that a higher POST score (specifically, ≥1.2) correlates with a lower risk of postoperative complications, with significant differences in complication rates based on POST scores.
  • - The findings suggest that using POST as an objective measure can help predict patient outcomes after hypospadias repair, potentially guiding follow-up care and treatment decisions.

Background: Despite the efforts of the health system to improve access to medications during the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, such as online consultations, encouraging generic prescriptions, and other measures to limit the storage of medication, psychotropic patients faced significant challenges in accessing their medications.

Objectives: This study aimed (1) to compare the consumption of psychotropics before and during the pandemic, (2) to assess the association between having difficulties finding the medications and the general characteristics of the patients, and (3) to assess the predictors of these difficulties.

Design: A case-control study was performed in which 128 patients (cases) were recruited during the pandemic (July-October 2021), and 256 patients (controls) using psychotropics before the pandemic were matched for age and sex.

The current imaging gold standard for detecting paradoxical diaphragm motion and diagnosing hemidiaphragm paralysis is to perform the fluoroscopic sniff test. The images are visually examined by an experienced radiologist, and if one hemidiaphragm ascends while the other descends, then it is described as paradoxical motion, which is highly suggestive of hemidiaphragm paralysis. However, diagnosis can be challenging because diaphragm motion during sniffing is fast, paradoxical motion can be subtle, and the analysis is based on a 2-dimensional projection of a 3-dimensional surface.

The term 'hip-spine syndrome' was introduced in recognition of the frequent occurrence of concomitant symptoms at the hip and lumbar spine. Limitations in hip range of motion can result in abnormal lumbopelvic mechanics. Ischiofemoral impingement, femoroacetabular impingement and abnormal femoral torsion are increasingly linked to abnormal hip and spinopelvic biomechanics.

Inaccuracy of ischiofemoral space (IFS) measurement may result in radiographic misdiagnosis of ischiofemoral impingement, as well as insufficient or excessive osseous resection when surgery is indicated. This study compared the IFS measured in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed in distinct health services for the same patient. Sixty-five patients (95 hips) who had hip MRI performed at an outside institution (noncontrolled MRI) followed by a hip MRI with lower extremity positioning reproducing the standing position (controlled MRI) were studied.

Background: The stabilization of the femoral head is provided by the distal acetabulum when the hip is in a flexed position. However, the osseous parameters for the diagnosis of hip instability in flexion are not defined.

Purpose/hypothesis: To determine whether the osseous parameters of the distal acetabulum are different in hips demonstrating anteroinferior subluxation in flexion under dynamic arthroscopic examination, compared with individuals without hip symptoms.

Background: The orientation of the acetabulum has a fundamental role in impingement and instability of the hip, and the spinopelvic parameters are thought to predict the sagittal orientation of the acetabulum (SOA). However, similar to the acetabular version (axial orientation) and inclination (coronal orientation), the cephalic or caudal orientation of the acetabulum in the sagittal plane, or SOA, may primarily be an intrinsic feature of the acetabulum itself.

Purpose: To determine whether the spinopelvic parameters predict the sagittal orientation of the acetabulum in individuals without lumbar deformity.
