Countermovement Jump Peak Power Changes with Age in Masters Weightlifters.

Aging is associated with decreased muscle strength and power. Power is particularly important for maintaining the independence of older adults when performing activities of daily living. The countermovement jump has been identified as a reliable and safe method to assess lower extremity power across the lifespan.

Grip Strength and Sports Performance in Competitive Master Weightlifters.

Grip strength (GS) is correlated with major muscle group strength; weakness and asymmetry in older adults are predictive of future disease and functional limitation risk. GS at different ages and hand symmetry for Olympic-style weightlifters and their association with performance have not been established. GS was measured in 164 athletes participating in the 2022 World Master Weightlifting Championships.

The Effect of a Curved Non-Motorized Treadmill on Running Gait Length, Imbalance and Stride Angle.

Functional Movement Screening and Paddle-Sport Performance.

The purpose of the study reported here was to determine the relationship between an endurance paddle-sport athlete's total functional movement screening (FMS) score and individual race performance. Fifty elite level endurance canoeists and kayakers completed the seven-stage FMS protocol prior to the 2016 United States Canoe and Kayak Association National Championship race. Time taken to finish the race was then associated to overall FMS score and respective sub-scores.

A Comparison between Chocolate Milk and a Raw Milk Honey Solution's Influence on Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness.

This investigation sought to examine the effect that a chocolate milk solution (CMS) and a raw milk solution (RMS) had on lower extremity induced delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS). Twenty trained male participants completed a set of questionnaires, prior to completing a lower extremity DOMS protocol, to determine the level of discomfort and functional limitations. Once the DOMS protocol was completed, participants were randomly assigned to either the CM or RM group.

The relationship of aerobic capacity, anaerobic peak power and experience to performance in CrossFit exercise.

CrossFit is becoming increasingly popular as a method to increase fitness and as a competitive sport in both the Unites States and Europe. However, little research on this mode of exercise has been performed to date. The purpose of the present investigation involving experienced CrossFit athletes and naïve healthy young men was to investigate the relationship of aerobic capacity and anaerobic power to performance in two representative CrossFit workouts: the first workout was 12 minutes in duration, and the second was based on the total time to complete the prescribed exercise.

Evaluation of a social cognitive theory-based email intervention designed to influence the physical activity of survivors of breast cancer.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate a 12-week social cognitive theory (SCT)-based email intervention designed to influence the physical activity of survivors of breast cancer.

Methods: Seventy-four volunteers (intervention group, n = 36; control group, n = 38) were recruited by mass email and written letter solicitation. Participants completed a series of online questionnaires measuring demographic characteristics, physical activity readiness, level of physical activity and selected SCT variables at baseline, 6 and 12 weeks.

Catatonic schizophrenia and the use of memantine.

Objective: To report a case of catatonic schizophrenia treated with memantine that resulted in a rapid reduction of catatonic symptoms.

Case Summary: A 68-year-old male with catatonic schizophrenia presented with bizarre and catatonic behavior manifested by mutism, waxy flexibility, immobility, staring, nonresponsiveness to verbal commands, grimacing, rigidity, and posturing. During the course of his hospitalization, he was treated with memantine up to 10 mg/day.

Diagnostic concordance in biopsies of deceptive prostatic carcinoma.

Objective: To explore the diagnostic concordancy of surgery pathologists in deceptive prostatic carcinoma biopsies (DPCs) purposely selected as of difficult interpretation.

Setting: Ten experienced pathologists belonging to five tertiary care centers in Mexico City participated.

Material And Methods: A total of 25 slides (16 DPCs and 9 benign biopsies) were marked and circulated among the participants.
