Introduction: Although neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) have a good prognosis, distant metastasis remains a crucial prognostic factor. Survivin, a tumor-associated antigen, is overexpressed in several solid tumors, indicating poor prognosis. We aimed to evaluate the clinical significance and role of survivin as a therapeutic target for NEN.

OSCC at the advanced stage tends to resist conventional treatment and causes local recurrence and distant metastasis, resulting in poor prognosis. Therefore, detecting this cancer at an early stage and performing early intervention are important.

Background: Pleural mesothelioma, characterized by a dismal prognosis even with multimodal therapy, has seen emerging interest in immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) due to their demonstrated efficacy. Here, we present a case of epithelioid-type pleural mesothelioma with chest wall invasion treated with definitive ICI therapy, resulting in a remarkable pretreatment effect.
Case Presentation: A 46-year-old man was diagnosed with an abnormal chest shadow on a medical check, and a computed tomography scan showed pleural thickening at the dorsal right upper chest wall.
Aim: To explore patients' process of living with chronic liver disease while continuing regular healthcare visits for hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance.
Methods: Semistructured interviews and participant observations were conducted in this qualitative constructivist grounded theory study. The participants included 11 patients undergoing regular hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance every 1-6 months for 2-30 years.
Aflibercept (AFL) plus FOLFIRI prolongs overall survival (OS) in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). However, there is limited evidence on the efficacy and safety of AFL plus FOLFIRI previously treated with anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) agents. Therefore, we conducted a prospective open-label phase II trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of AFL plus FOLFIRI in Japanese patients with mCRC failing a prior oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy plus an anti-EGFR agent.

However, accurate genetic testing requires a sufficient amount of tumor cells in the specimen. The evaluation of tumor content ratio (TCR) from hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained images has been found to vary between pathologists, making it an important challenge to obtain an accurate TCR.

Chinese nurses working in Japan experience differences in nursing practice and difficulties in career development. Therefore, the nursing practice environment and occupational career may affect their work engagement.

However, since it is measured invasively, non-invasive alternatives would be of great utility. The aim of this preliminary study was a) to investigate whether photoplethysmography (PPG) can be used to characterize venous system fluid motion and b) to find the model for venous blood volume modulations.

However, drug discovery for PDAC treatment has proven complicated, leading to stagnant therapeutic outcomes. Here, we identify Glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) as a therapeutic target through a whole-body genetic screening utilizing a '4-hit' Drosophila model mimicking the PDAC genotype.

Design: Retrospective, observational study.
Setting: This study used chest radiograph images consecutively taken in three medical facilities with various degrees of referral.
Recent results show that polymorphisms of programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1, also known as CD274 or B7-H1) might be used as a possible marker for effectiveness of chemotherapy and cancer risk. However, the effect of PD-L1 gene variations on PD-L1 expression remain unclear. Given the post-transcriptional machinery in tumor PD-L1 expression, we investigated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of the PD-L1 gene, rs4143815 and rs4742098, using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections of 154 patients with non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs).

Tumor dissemination for metastasis formation occurs in advanced cancers and also during early stages of tumorigenesis. Here, we investigated the genes involved in early metastatic seeding of CRC using gene expression analysis.

Recently, NETs have received much attention for their role in tumor biology; however, their impact on the postoperative prognosis of patients with extrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas (EHCCs) remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify the impact of NETs identified by immunohistochemical citrullinated histone H3 (Cit-H3) staining on postoperative overall survival (OS) in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHCC) and distal cholangiocarcinoma (DCC).

In this paper, a chain of processes produced in this interaction is analyzed and compared with other THz generation studies. It is demonstrated that the enhanced THz and X-ray emissions are produced by an energetic electron beam accelerated in the interaction of a main laser pulse with liquid water ejected from the surface by the pre-pulse.

KTS is thought to lie on the PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum, but reports are limited. PIK3CA encodes p110α, a catalytic subunit of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) that plays an essential role in the PI3K/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway.
