Background Determining good candidates for head and neck cancer surgery in elderly patients requires consideration of various factors, such as overall health and social background, yet specific evaluation guidelines are lacking. The Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS) is a marker used to assess nutritional status and prognosis in cancer patients. Objective This study aims to evaluate the association between the GPS and both the prognosis and postoperative complications in reconstructive surgery cases for head and neck cancer in patients aged 80 and over.

Purpose: This study aimed to present a case of a woman diagnosed with congenital nasal optic disc hypoplasia (NOH) in the right eye.
Observations: A woman in her 20s presented with a small optic disc, irregular optic disc margins with a double-ring sign, and wedge-shaped defects temporally extending from Mariotte's blind spot in the right eye. The radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) density around the optic nerve disc was examined using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
Objective: This study aims to create a new screening for preterm birth < 34 weeks after gestation with a cervical length (CL) ≤ 30 mm, based on clinical, demographic, and sonographic characteristics.
Methods: This is a analysis of a randomized clinical trial (RCT), which included pregnancies, in middle-gestation, screened with transvaginal ultrasound. After observing inclusion criteria, the patient was invited to compare pessary plus progesterone (PP) versus progesterone only (P) (1:1).
Depressive episodes with psychotic symptoms are prevalent among the older adults, emphasizing the need to differentiate them from dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), in which depressive and psychotic symptoms commonly coexist. In contrast, psychotic symptoms occur more frequently in depressive episodes of bipolar disorder (BD) than in major depressive disorder (MDD). Although MDD is a significant risk factor for dementia, studies exploring the relationship between BD and dementia are lacking.

When the proteasome is dysfunctional, cells compensate for impaired protein clearance by activating aggrephagy, a type of selective autophagy, to eliminate ubiquitinated protein aggregates; however, the molecular mechanisms by which impaired proteasome function activates aggrephagy remain poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that activation of aggrephagy is transcriptionally induced by the transcription factor NRF1 (NFE2L1) in response to proteasome dysfunction.

Objective: Fetal thymus involvement in prematurity has been studied, and this study aimed to evaluate its relationship with short cervix and amniotic fluid sludge in the second trimester of pregnancy.
Methods: In this prospective cross-sectional study, 79 pregnant women (19+0 to 24+6 weeks) were included, and cervical length and the presence or absence of amniotic fluid sludge were evaluated. In the three-vessel view of the fetal thorax, the thymus was identified, and its perimeter and transverse diameter were measured and transformed to a zeta score based on gestational age.
Cancer cells coordinate the mTORC1 signals and the related metabolic pathways to robustly and rapidly grow in response to nutrient conditions. Although a CNC-family transcription factor NRF3 promotes cancer development, the biological relevance between NRF3 function and mTORC1 signals in cancer cells remains unknown. Hence, we showed that NRF3 contributes to cancer cell viability through mTORC1 activation in response to amino acids, particularly arginine.

Background: Several studies were published about cervical pessary, with controversial results. These studies demonstrated that the patient follow-up after pessary insertion is very different between the study centers and the number of pessary insertions per center was often <30 cases. This study aims to determine cervical pessary performance in singleton pregnancies with a short cervix based on a single center learning curve.

The aim of this study was to assess cervical length distribution in women with singleton pregnancies, measured by transvaginal ultrasound between 16 and 24 weeks, and its association with population characteristics.
Materials And Methods: We searched electronic databases and other sources for studies published from April 1, 1990 to July 21, 2020.
Purpose: To report a case of a neonate with acute retinal necrosis, lens vacuoles, and encephalitis associated with herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection.
Design: Case report.
Methods: Retrospective chart review.
Background: Predictors of spontaneous preterm birth in primigravid women remain undetermined.
Aim: We evaluated whether biomarkers in vaginal secretions and/or differences in the dominant bacterium in the vaginal microbiome predicted the risk for spontaneous preterm birth in primigravid women with a cervical length >25mm.
Study Design: In a prospective study, 146 second trimester pregnant women with their first conception and a cervix >25mm were enrolled.

Objective: The present study aims to determine if the use of cervical pessary plus progesterone in short-cervix (≤ 25 mm) dichorionic-diamniotic (DC-DA) twin pregnancies is equivalent to the rate of preterm births (PBs) with no intervention in unselected DC-DA twin pregnancies.
Methods: A historical cohort study was performed between 2010 and 2018, including a total of 57 pregnant women with DC-DA twin pregnancies. The women admitted from 2010 to 2012 ( = 32) received no treatment, and were not selected by cervical length (Non-Treated group, NTG), whereas those admitted from 2013 to 2018 ( = 25), were routinely submitted to cervical pessary plus progesterone after the diagnosis of short cervix from the 18th to the 27th weeks of gestation (Pessary-Progesterone group, PPG).
Objectives: Short cervical length is a predictor of preterm birth. We evaluated if there were racial differences in variables associated with cervical length in pregnant Brazilian women.
Methods: Cervical length was determined by vaginal ultrasound in 414 women at 21 weeks gestation.
Oxytetracycline (OTC) has been commonly used as an effective antibiotic against various fish bacterial diseases, including vibriosis. In this study, the absorption-enhancing effect of citric acid on oral OTC pharmacokinetics and treatment of artificial Vibrio anguillarum infection was evaluated in juvenile yellowtail Seriola quinqueradiata followed by serum OTC concentration analysis. When 25 mg kg-1 body weight (BW) OTC was administered in combination with 1250 mg kg-1 BW citric acid, the serum OTC concentration reached almost the same concentration as that of the group treated with 50 mg kg-1 BW OTC.

However, the mechanism of how proteasome activity is maintained in cancer cells has remained unclear. The CNC family transcription factor NFE2L1 induces the expression of almost all proteasome-related genes under proteasome inhibition.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFProteasomes are essential protease complexes that maintain cellular homeostasis, and aberrant proteasomal activity supports cancer development. The regulatory mechanisms and biological function of the ubiquitin-26S proteasome have been studied extensively, while those of the ubiquitin-independent 20S proteasome system remain obscure. Here, we show that the cap 'n' collar (CNC) family transcription factor NRF3 specifically enhances 20S proteasome assembly in cancer cells and that 20S proteasomes contribute to colorectal cancer development through ubiquitin-independent proteolysis of the tumor suppressor p53 and retinoblastoma (Rb) proteins.
