Purpose: Options for shaping the delivery sheath of leadless pacemakers (LPs) based on the cardiac anatomy of patients are limited. We predicted the shape of the LP sheath during implantation using preoperative computed tomography (CT) and intraoperative fluoroscopy.
Methods: Forty-eight patients with implanted LPs due to symptomatic bradyarrhythmia were divided into two groups, α-loop and non-α-loop, based on the shape of the LP delivery sheath head at implantation.
Although intraoperative anesthetic management of extensive encircling pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is essential for the safe performance of this procedure, there is no standardized approach for the use of sedation and analgesia. Therefore, the present study aimed to clarify the optimal fentanyl dosage and timing of administration for the anesthetic management during PVI. A total of 364 patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who underwent PVI at our institution between June 2017 and October 2020 were recruited.

Myocarditis as an immune-related adverse event is rare but highly fatal, suggesting that its frequency may be higher than reported. This paper describes a case of myocarditis that developed asymptomatically following ipilimumab and nivolumab combination therapy for renal cell carcinoma.

This study investigated the usefulness of a predictive ablation point that lies near the boundary line between appropriate and excessively fast JRs with three-dimensional (3D) electroanatomical mapping in AVNRT patients.
Methods: Participants were 141 consecutive patients with common AVNRT who received anatomical ablation to an antegrade SP at our institution between August 2013 and December 2019.
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF), which contributes to an increased risk of stroke, frequently remains undetected, suggesting an unmet need for easier and more reliable AF screening. The reports on screening AF using an Omron blood pressure (BP) monitor with an irregular heartbeat (IHB) detector show inconsistent results, so the aim of this study was to develop a novel algorithm to accurately diagnose AF with 3 BP measurements using an Omron automated BP monitor with IHB detector.
Methods and results: In total, 303 general cardiac patients were included.
Heart failure often presents with prognosis-relevant impaired renal function. To investigate whether the chronic activation of guanylate cyclase-A (GC-A) protects both heart and kidney, we examined the effects of TDT, a neprilysin (NEP)-resistant natriuretic peptide (NP) derivative, on cardiac and renal dysfunction in Dahl salt-sensitive hypertensive (DS) rats. Pretreatment with NEP or NEP inhibitor did not influence GC-A activation by TDT both in vitro and in vivo, resulting in a long-acting profile of TDT compared with native human atrial NP (hANP).

Purpose: The clinical features of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and interstitial lung disease (ILD) have not fully been elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the clinical features of these patients, particularly with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Methods: Data on 218 patients with pathologically confirmed diagnoses of NSCLC who had been treated with chemotherapy and/or molecular targeted therapy were retrospectively analyzed for progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), responses to first-line therapy, and incidence of acute exacerbations (AEs).
Background: The impact of nicorandil as adjunctive therapy for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is controversial. We performed O-labeled water positron emission tomography (PET) to quantify regional myocardial perfusion in patients with STEMI who received nicorandil or no adjunctive therapy during PCI.
Methods: PCI was performed within 8 h after STEMI onset in 33 patients.
We examined and compared the inhibitory effects of D-tagatose on the growth, acid production, and water-insoluble glucan synthesis of GS5, a bacterial strain of Streptococcus mutans, with those of xylitol, D-psicose, L-psicose and L-tagatose. GS5 was cultured for 12h in a medium containing 10% (w/v) of xylitol, D-psicose, L-psicose, D-tagatose or L-tagatose, and the inhibitory effect of GS5 growth was assessed. Each sugar showed different inhibitory effects on GS5.

Objective: To understand the present state of LNUx in Japan, we conducted a multicenter analysis of clinical outcome and long-term cancer control for patients who underwent the procedure.
Design, Setting, And Participants: Between January 1995 and December 2005, 1003 patients with urothelial cancer in the upper urinary tract were treated with LNUx at 51 institutions in Japan, and patient data were collected retrospectively.
Purpose: A prospective, randomized, controlled trial was done to evaluate whether oral administration of a preparation of the probiotic agent Lactobacillus casei (Yakult Honsha, Tokyo, Japan) could enhance the prevention of recurrence by intravesical instillation of epirubicin after transurethral resection for superficial bladder cancer.
Materials And Methods: Between August 1999 and December 2002, 207 patients clinically diagnosed with superficial bladder cancer were included as study candidates and underwent transurethral resection, followed by intravesical instillation of 30 mg epirubicin/30 ml saline twice during 1 week. After histological confirmation of superficial bladder cancer they were again included as study participants with 102 randomized to receive treatment with 6 additional intravesical instillations of epirubicin during the 3-month period after transurethral resection (epirubicin group) and 100 randomized to intravesical chemotherapy on the same schedule as the epirubicin group plus oral administration of 3 gm Lactobacillus casei preparation per day for 1 year (epirubicin plus Lactobacillus casei group).
Cell surface proteolysis is important for the generation of bioactive proteins mediating tumor progression. Recent studies suggest that the membrane-anchored cell surface proteinases matriptase and hepsin have significant roles in tumors. We analyzed the expression and clinical relevance of matriptase and hepsin, and their inhibitors hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitor type 1 (HAI-1) and type 2 (HAI-2) in 66 cases of conventional renal cell carcinomas (RCC).

Increased inflammatory activity is known to accompany aging. Single nucleotide polymorphisms of inflammatory mediator genes might therefore affect the aging process. Relation of eight SNPs (tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-alpha] -1031 T/C, interleukin-10 [IL-10] -819 T/C, IL-1beta -511 C/T, IL-6 -634 C/G, IL-18 -607 A/C, transforming growth factor-beta [TGF-beta] +869 C/T, matrix metalloproteinase-1 [MMP-1] -1607 1G/2G, and MMP-3 -1171 5A/6A) with age or gender was evaluated in 500 Japanese persons (mean age: 56.

HGF is secreted as an inactive proform and it must be activated to initiate MET signaling. HGF activator (HGFA) activates pro-HGF in injured tissue.

They have important regulatory roles in pericellular activation of hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor (HGF/SF) which is critically involved in the development and regeneration of various tissues. Recent reports suggest that HGF/SF is also involved in testicular development and spermatogenesis.

The cyst was located in the retroperitoneum just below the diaphragm and was adhered to the diaphragmatic skeletal muscle and abdominal aorta, but was separate from the spleen, pancreas, left adrenal gland and left kidney. The surgically resected cyst measured 8 x 8 x 7 cm and was filled with protein-rich fluid, which contained amylase and embryonal proteins such as carcinoembryonic antigen, CA125 and CA19-9.

An esterase catalyzing the hydrolysis of acetyl ester moieties in poly(vinyl alcohol) was purified 400-fold to electrophoretic homogeneity from the cytoplasmic fraction of Pseudomonas vesicularis PD, which was capable of assimilating poly(vinyl alcohol) as the sole carbon and energy source. The purified enzyme was a homodimeric protein with a molecular mass of 80 kDa and the isoelectric point was 6.8.
