Here, we report on the fabrication of cm-long microchannels in LiNbO by selective etching of femtosecond laser inscribed tracks using hydrofluoric acid. We achieved a 1 cm long microchannel after 300 h of etching a single track inscribed into the volume along the optical axis of LiNbO. Furthermore, we investigated the dependence of the etching behavior on various writing parameters.

Alfaxalone, a neuroactive steroid with anesthetic properties, is considered safe when used alone or in combination with other drugs for anesthesia at recommended species doses, and its use has been studied in numerous species. The objective of this study was to assess the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of IM alfaxalone in Indian peafowl (; hereafter peafowl). Eight female peafowl from one zoological institution were used.

Antepartum depression, general anxiety symptoms, and pregnancy-related anxiety have been recognized to affect pregnancy outcomes. Systematic reviews on these associations lack consistent findings, which is why further research is required. We examined the associations between psychological distress, mode of birth, epidural analgesia, and duration of labor.

A 4-yr-old male intact lesser spot-nosed guenon (), housed at a North American zoological facility, presented with acute lethargy, inappetence, and mild neurologic signs. Physical examination revealed hemorrhagic pleural effusion in the right hemithorax. This guenon's condition improved over several days but then deteriorated, and the guenon presented with lethargy and weakness.

We demonstrate multi-cycle terahertz (MC-THz) generation in a 15.5 mm long periodically poled rubidium (Rb)-doped potassium titanyl phosphate (Rb:PPKTP) crystal with a poling period of 300 µm. By cryogenically cooling the crystal to 77 K, up to 0.

Purpose: Our purpose was to assess the use of machine learning methods and Mobius 3D (M3D) dose calculation software to reduce the number of physical ion chamber (IC) dose measurements required for patient-specific quality assurance during corona virus disease 2019.

Methods And Materials: In this study, 1464 inversely planned treatments using Pinnacle or Raystation treatment planning software (TPS) were delivered using Elekta Versa HD and Varian Truebeam and Truebeam STx linear accelerators between June 2018 and November 2019. For each plan, an independent dose calculation was performed using M3D, and an absolute dose measurement was taken using a Pinpoint IC inside the Mobius phantom.

Purpose: Lung biomechanical models are important for understanding and characterizing lung anatomy and physiology. A key parameter of biomechanical modeling is the underlying tissue elasticity distribution. While human lung elasticity estimations do not have ground truths, model consistency checks can and should be employed to gauge the stability of the estimation techniques.

Purpose: Lung elastography aims at measuring the lung parenchymal tissue elasticity for applications ranging from diagnostic purposes to biomechanically guided deformations. Characterizing the lung tissue elasticity requires four-dimensional (4D) lung motion as an input, which is currently estimated by deformably registering 4D computed tomography (4DCT) datasets. Since 4DCT imaging is widely used only in a radiotherapy treatment setup, there is a need to predict the elasticity distribution in the absence of 4D imaging for applications within and outside of radiotherapy domain.

We report on fast direct laser inscription of waveguide laser structures in a crystal. For the first time, a 1 MHz-repetition rate fs-laser was utilized for this purpose. We inscribed and characterized more than 100 tracks with different inscription parameters in Yb:CALGO crystals.

Alfaxalone is a neurosteroid anesthetic agent that has been extensively used in both human and veterinary medicine for more than 50 yr. Previous studies involving avian species demonstrated various dose ranges and multiple routes of administration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term sedative, cardiorespiratory, and thermoregulatory effects of an intramuscular injection of alfaxalone on budgerigars ().

Purpose: Elastography using computer tomography (CT) is a promising methodology that can provide patient-specific regional distributions of lung biomechanical properties. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of performing elastography using simulated lower dose CT scans.

Methods: A cohort of eight patient CT image pairs were acquired with a tube current-time product of 40 mAs for estimating baseline lung elastography results.

Purpose: In-house software is commonly employed to implement new imaging and therapy techniques before commercial solutions are available. Risk analysis methods, as detailed in the TG-100 report of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, provide a framework for quality management of processes but offer little guidance on software design. In this work, we examine a novel model-based four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) protocol using the TG-100 approach and describe two additional methods for promoting safety of the associated in-house software.

Objective:: Lung tissue elasticity is an effective spatial representation for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease phenotypes and pathophysiology. We investigated a novel imaging biomarker based on the voxel-by-voxel distribution of lung tissue elasticity. Our approach combines imaging and biomechanical modeling to characterize tissue elasticity.

Purpose: Lung diseases are commonly associated with changes in lung tissue's biomechanical properties. Functional imaging techniques, such as elastography, have shown great promise in measuring tissue's biomechanical properties, which could expand the utility and effectiveness of radiotherapy treatment planning. We present a novel methodology for characterizing a key biomechanical property, parenchymal elasticity, derived solely from 4DCT datasets.

In this Letter, we present high-power continuous wave (CW) and Q-switched femtosecond laser-written Yb:YAG channel waveguide lasers. In Q-switched operation, obtained by a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM), as well as in CW operation, the laser generates average output powers of more than 5.6 W and reaches slope efficiencies above 74%.

Purpose: Breast elastography is a critical tool for improving the targeted radiotherapy treatment of breast tumors. Current breast radiotherapy imaging protocols only involve prone and supine CT scans. There is a lack of knowledge on the quantitative accuracy with which breast elasticity can be systematically measured using only prone and supine CT datasets.

A within-participants experiment was conducted in two countries (the UK and Colombia) in order to investigate the matching of shapes to taste words. Comparing the two countries allowed us to explore some of the cultural differences that have been reported thus far solely in terms of people's visual preferences. In particular, we addressed the question of whether properties other than angularity influence shape-valence and shape-taste matching (crossmodal correspondences).

We report on the first, to the best of our knowledge, continuous-wave quasi three-level lasers emitting in the cyan-blue spectral range in praseodymium-doped crystalline materials. Applying Pr(3+):BaY2F8 as an active medium, up to 201 mW of output power at 495 nm could be obtained with a slope efficiency of 27% under pumping with an optically pumped semiconductor laser (2ω-OPSL) at 480 nm. In the same pumping scheme using Pr(3+):LiYF4, output powers up to 70 mW were realized at 491 and 500 nm, respectively.

Cloning and sequencing of the murine chromosomal region XB harboring the murine vasopressin V(2) receptor (mV(2)R) gene and comparison with the orthologous human Xq28 region harboring the human vasopressin V(2) receptor (hV(2)R) revealed conservation of the genomic organization and a high degree of sequence identity in the V(2)R coding regions. Despite an identity of 87% of the amino acid sequences, both receptors show marked functional differences upon stable expression in Chinese hamster ovary cells: the mV(2)R displayed a 5-fold higher affinity for [(3)H]AVP than the human ortholog; similar differences were found for the AVP-mediated activation of adenylyl cyclase. Saturation binding experiments with transiently transfected intact COS.
