Effectiveness of the injectable hyaluronic acid-based microparticles loaded with cannabidiol on rat sciatic nerve injury model.

We have developed an innovative peripheral nerve tissue repair approach by designing biomimetic microparticles loaded with cannabidiol (CBD) using horseradish peroxidase-mediated crosslinking within a microfluidic device. This method utilizes a water-in-oil emulsion system where a mixture of phenol-substituted hyaluronic acid (HAPh), CBD, and laccase is channeled into oil flow, forming hydrogel microparticles. The physical properties, such as their swelling rate, mechanical strength, and the sustained release of CBD, emphasize their potential in tissue engineering and drug delivery applications.

Investigation of water quality in the shallow coastal waters of the Persian Gulf.

Advanced satellite technology and algorithms are making substantial progress in meeting the need for improved environmental monitoring of coastal waterways. Integrating high-resolution satellites with in-situ radiometric equipment is essential for effectively monitoring algal blooms and managing coastal resources. Our work has built a model to examine geographical and temporal fluctuations in chlorophyll-a concentration in Bushehr Bay, Persian Gulf, Iran, using radiometric data and high-resolution remote sensing.

Agreement of a Pyramidal Wavefront-Based Autorefraction with Dry, Cycloplegic, and Subjective Refraction in Myopic Refractive Surgery Candidates.

Purpose: To evaluate the repeatability of a pyramidal wavefront-based refraction (WFR) measurement and its agreement with dry autorefraction (DR), cycloplegic autorefraction (CR), and subjective refraction (SR) in myopic refractive surgery candidates.

Methods: One hundred eighty-nine eyes from 189 participants were evaluated. PERAMIS aberrometry (PERAMIS; SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions, Kleinostheim, Germany), DR, and CR, as well as SR, were completed for all candidates.

Effectiveness of Insolubilized Poly(vinyl alcohol)-Based Electrospun Fiber-Loaded Methylprednisolone by Enzyme-Catalyzed Cross-Linking in a Rat Spinal Cord Injury Model.

Here, we propose an improved formation for fibrous mat fabrication from the derivatives of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and gelatin (Gela) through horseradish peroxidase-mediated cross-linking, providing a sustained release of methylprednisolone (MP) for SCI repair. After 28 days, the animals were evaluated in terms of remyelination and apoptosis and underwent behavioral tests.

Background: Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy (TCM) is a transient heart condition often precipitated by stress and characterized by atypical ventricular ballooning. The interplay between TCM and Adrenal Insufficiency (AI), particularly the influence of catecholamine excess and glucocorticoid deficiency on TCM's pathogenesis in individuals with AI, warrants comprehensive exploration for a better understanding of TCM pathophysiology and establishment of potential therapeutic strategies.

Methods: We conducted an extensive literature search via PubMed and Google Scholar, targeting reports on AI, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy, supplemented by forward and backward citation tracing.

Topical delivery to paranasal sinuses through sustained-release stents is one of the new horizons in treating chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). This study aims to introduce and evaluate sustained co-release of encapsulated ciprofloxacin (CIP) and dexamethasone (DEX) in polyvinyl alcohol-based carriers within the maxillary sinus of rabbit animals. DEX and CIP were loaded in a tyramine-substituted polyvinyl alcohol microparticle (PVATyr MP).

Methods: Forty patients (age range, 7-40 years) with intermittent exotropia were included in this prospective study. Motor and sensory ocular dominance were evaluated using the hole-in-the-card and Worth 4-Dot tests.

Psychometric Properties of the Persian Translation of the 12-Item Utah Photophobia Symptom Impact Scale Questionnaire.

To translate the the Utah Photophobia Symptom Impact Scale-12 questionnaire into Persian and assess the psychometric aspects to check its validity and reliability based on the Rasch modelling method. Translation and cultural adjustment of the English language UPSIS-12 questionnaire to Persian was undertaken. A total of 61 patients with complaints of photophobia participated in evaluating validity and reliability aspects.

Genetic abnormality has been implicated to play a mechanistic role in the development of SCAD. Mallampati score in patients with temporomandibular joint disorders: A pilot case-control study.

Objectives: Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is defined as any functional abnormalities in different parts of the face and neck. The Mallampati index is an indicator for determining the extent of airway blockage. No study has examined the relationship between TMD and Mallampati score.

Deep phenotyping of post-infectious myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome.

Post-infectious myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (PI-ME/CFS) is a disabling disorder, yet the clinical phenotype is poorly defined, the pathophysiology is unknown, and no disease-modifying treatments are available. We used rigorous criteria to recruit PI-ME/CFS participants with matched controls to conduct deep phenotyping. Among the many physical and cognitive complaints, one defining feature of PI-ME/CFS was an alteration of effort preference, rather than physical or central fatigue, due to dysfunction of integrative brain regions potentially associated with central catechol pathway dysregulation, with consequences on autonomic functioning and physical conditioning.

This study demonstrates that a 3D composite scaffold containing exosomes can promote regeneration in rat tympanic membrane perforation (TMP). The scaffolds were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), degradation, PBS adsorption, swelling, porosity, and mechanical properties.

Extra-Axial Cavernous Angioma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Cavernous angiomas (CAs) are benign vascular malformations predominantly seen in the brain parenchyma and therefore referred to as intra-axial. Extra-axial dural-based cavernous angiomas, on the other hand, are rare vascular lesions found outside of the brain parenchyma. They occur in the middle fossa and may be easily misdiagnosed as meningiomas due to their extra-axial location.

Agreement between a Spectral-Domain Ocular Coherence Tomography Biometer with a Swept-Source Ocular Coherence Tomography Biometer and an Optical Low-Coherence Reflectometry Biometer in Eyes with Cataract.

Purpose: To assess the agreement between biometric parameters measured by a spectral-domain optical coherence tomography optical biometer device (Optopol Revo NX) with a validated swept-source biometer (IOLMaster 700) and a validated optical low-coherence reflectometry biometer (Lenstar LS 900), in cataract surgery candidates.

Methods: In this prospective comparative study, 100 patients (100 eyes) who were eligible for cataract surgery were involved. Bland-Altman plots were used to assess agreement between devices for biometric parameters including axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT), and central corneal thickness (CCT).
