Vastus medialis (VM) has two partitions, longus (VML), and obliquus (VMO), which have been implicated in knee pathologies. However, muscle architecture of VMO and VML has not been documented volumetrically. The aims of this study were to determine and compare the muscle architecture of VMO and VML in three-dimensional (3D) space, and to elucidate their relative functional capabilities.

We introduce a strategic approach to synthesize covalntly cross-linked carbon nanotube (CNT)-polymer nanocomposites, which can be applied as a free-standing and flexible organic thermoelectric generator film. Esterification of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to render PVA-COOH followed by an amide reaction with single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) functionalized with amino groups (SWCNT-NH) yielded a covalently grafted PVA/SWCNT composite film with an excellent dispersion of SWCNTs within the polymer matrix as confirmed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. This amide reaction could be further optimized with the addition of a small amount of Triton™ X-100, which resulted in a better dispersion of SWCNT prior to the amide condensation reaction.

Economic growth, natural resources, and ecological footprints: evidence from Pakistan.

The ecological footprint, a measure of human demand on earth's ecosystems, represents the amount of biologically productive land and sea area that is necessary to supply the resources a human population consumes and to mitigate associated waste. This study estimates the impact of economic growth and natural resources on Pakistan's ecological footprint using an autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) model for long-run estimation. The empirical findings indicate that natural resources have a positive effect on an ecological footprint that deteriorates environmental quality and that natural resources help to support the environmental Kuznets hypothesis (EKC).

Associated factors that influenced persistence with basal analog insulin therapy among people with type 2 diabetes: An exploratory analysis from a UK real-world sample.

Aim: Real-world effectiveness of insulin therapy is affected by poor treatment persistence, often occurring soon after initiation. An international cross-sectional survey of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been conducted to describe reasons for non-persistence with insulin therapy.

Methods: Responders to an online survey in 7 countries were classified as continuers (no gap of ≥7days), interrupters (interrupted therapy for ≥7days within first 6 months, then restarted), and discontinuers (terminated therapy for ≥7days within first 6 months, no restart before survey).

We report a case of partial mole and co-existing live fetus. This condition, uncommonly termed "sad fetus syndrome," is a rare subclass of gestational trophoblastic disease. Our case involves a 25-year-old primigravid woman who presented to the outpatient department at 18 weeks of gestation with lower abdominal pain, vaginal spotting, and severe nausea.

Modeling the impact of economic growth and terrorism on the human development index: collecting evidence from Pakistan.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between economic growth, terrorism, and human development index time spanning 1990-2016 for Pakistan. An empirical result from the autoregressive distributive lag model (ARDL) recommends that there exists an insignificant relationship between electric power consumption and human development process against our expectation. Besides, more interestingly, the findings show that economic growth does not contribute to human development in Pakistan.

Total phenolics, flavonoids and total protein contents of n-hexane, chloroform and methanolic extracts of the whole plant were also determined. The anti-diabetic activity of all the three extracts of the plant was determined by alpha-amylase inhibition assay.

Development and evaluation of mucoadhesive buccal tablet containing metronidazole for the treatment of periodontitis and gingivitis.

The current study was designed to evaluate mucoadhesive buccal tablet containing metronidazole (MTZ) for local action aided by Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose K4M (HPMC) and Carbopol 940® (CP) as mucoadhesive polymers with other ingredients like sodium starch glycolate (SSG), polyvinyl pyrollidone K30 (PVP) as disintegrant and binders respectively. Formulations (F1-F8) were prepared by direct compression method and characterized for different physicochemical parameters. Results showed that the average weight and friability were within USP limits.

The inclusion criteria were as follows: clinical studies evaluating the use of interactive video games as a treatment to improve functional balance and mobility in individuals poststroke and studies published in the Brazilian Portuguese, English, or Spanish language between 2005 and April 2016.

Adult idiopathic hypertrophic pyloric stenosis - a common presentation with an uncommon diagnosis.

Adult Idiopathic hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (AIHPS) is a rare but well-defined entity in adults with only 200-300 cases reported so far in the literature.We describe a case of AIHPS and the relevant literature review. Late Gastrointestinal Complications of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Adults.
