Unlabelled: Sitosterol is the most abundant plant sterol found in our diet. Sitosterolemia (OMIM 210250), also known as phytosterolaemia, is a rare autosomal recessive disease caused by the inability to efficiently excrete plant sterol, and is characterized by cutaneous xanthomas and accelerated atherosclerosis. Sitosterolaemia is caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in either ABCG5 or ABCG8 (both on chromosome 2p21), which encode the sterol efflux transporter ABCG5 (sterolin-1) and ABCG8 (sterolin-2), respectively.

There is a consensus in the literature that regional anesthesia (RA) improves local hemodynamic parameters in comparison to local anesthesia (LA) during arteriovenous fistula (AVF) surgical construction. However, the effects of both techniques on fistula patency and failure rates are still controversial. The aim of this meta-analysis is to synthesize evidence from published randomized trials and observational studies regarding the safety and efficacy of RA versus LA in AVF surgical construction.

New value-added uses for solid municipal waste are needed for environmental and economic sustainability. Fortunately, value-added biochars can be produced from mixed solid waste, thereby addressing solid waste management issues, and enabling long-term carbon sequestration. We hypothesize that soil deficiencies can be remedied by the application of municipal waste-based biochars.

We measured the perceived speed and contrast of patterns in peripheral vision relative to foveal patterns for a range of eccentricities at both mesopic and photopic levels. The results indicate that perceived speed varies with eccentricity, speed, and luminance. At high (photopic) luminance, patterns appear slower when viewed peripherally rather than foveally, but at low (mesopic) luminance fast-moving patterns can appear faster when viewed peripherally.

The standard Yee algorithm is widely used in computational electromagnetics because of its simplicity and divergence free nature. A generalization of the classical Yee scheme to 3D unstructured meshes is adopted, based on the use of a Delaunay primal mesh and its high quality Voronoi dual. This allows the problem of accuracy losses, which are normally associated with the use of the standard Yee scheme and a staircased representation of curved material interfaces, to be circumvented.
