Cascade testing for families with BRCA pathogenic variants is important to identify relatives who are carriers. These relatives can benefit from appropriate risk management and preventative strategies arising from an inherited increased risk of breast, ovarian, prostate, melanoma, and pancreatic cancers. Cascade testing has the potential to enable cost-effective cancer control even in low- and middle-income settings, but few studies have hitherto evaluated the psychosocial impact of cascade testing in an Asian population, where the cultural and religious beliefs around inheritance and destiny have previously been shown to influence perception and attitudes toward screening.

Carboxymethyl chitin (CMChit) has the potential to be used as a solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) based on its ionic conductivity value of the order of 10 S·cm in self-standing membranes. In controlled humidity of 65RH%, carboxymethyl chitin based membrane blended with 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (BMIM[Ac]) ionic liquid (IL) (40 wt%) showed a threshold value of ionic conductivity in the order of 10 S·cm and electrochemical stability was up to 2.93 V.

This paper aims to investigate the effect of the addition of 5% alcohol (butanol) with biodiesel-diesel blends on the performance, emissions, and combustion of a naturally aspirated four stroke multi-cylinder diesel engine at different engine speeds (1200 to 2400 rpm) under full load conditions. Three types of local Australian biodiesel, namely macadamia biodiesel (MB), rice bran biodiesel (RB), and waste cooking oil biodiesel (WCB), were used for this study, and the data was compared with results for conventional diesel fuel (B0). Performance results showed that the addition of butanol with diesel-biodiesel blends slightly lowers the engine efficiency.

DKK3, a member of the dickkopf Wnt signaling pathway inhibitor family, is believed to be a tumor suppressor because of its reduced expression in cancer cells. However, our previous studies have revealed that DKK3 expression is predominantly observed in head and neck/oral squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC/OSCC). Interestingly, HNSCC/OSCC patients with DKK3 expression showed a high rate of metastasis and poorer survival, and siRNA-mediated knockdown of DKK3 in HNSCC-derived cancer cell lines resulted in reduced cellular migration and invasion.

Insertion/deletion polymorphisms (INDELs) are a relatively new class of a DNA marker to be used in forensic casework; used most commonly as a supplementary method to STR-based typing. INDELs, like SNPs, are particularly useful for the analysis of highly degraded DNA as the amplicon sizes are typically below 160 bp; they can also be valuable as an additional tool to help resolve kinship cases, with the advantage over STRs that they do not have high mutation rates. INDELs have an advantage over SNPs in that they are length polymorphisms and so can be analyzed by simply measuring the length of the allele(s).
