Introduction Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a preventable cause of patient morbidity and mortality among hospitalised patients. VTE events have a high incidence among orthopaedic patients, who routinely receive chemical thromboprophylaxis in the form of heparin, warfarin, antiplatelet agents or direct oral anticoagulants. These can be associated with adverse events, most commonly bleeding or heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.

Imaging plays a crucial role not only in assessing left ventricular ejection fraction, but also in characterising the underlying cardiac abnormalities and reaching a specific diagnosis. By providing valuable data on cardiac structure, function and haemodynamics, imaging helps diagnose the condition, evaluate haemodynamic status and, consequently, identify the underlying pathophysiological phenotype, as well as stratifying the risk for outcomes.

Background: Robotic assisted surgery (RAS) has seen significant advancement in many surgical specialties, although the application of robotics in plastic and reconstructive surgery remains to be widely established. This systematic review aims to assess the role of RAS in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Methods: The review protocol was published and registered a priori as CRD42024507420.
The dorsoventral gradient of BMP signaling plays an essential role in embryonic patterning. Zinc Finger SWIM-Type Containing 4 (zswim4) is expressed in the Spemann-Mangold organizer at the onset of Xenopus gastrulation and is then enriched in the developing neuroectoderm at the mid-gastrula stages. Knockdown or knockout of zswim4 causes ventralization.

Using CV MRI (CMR) and P-MRS in a longitudinal cohort study, we aimed to investigate the effects of the selective SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin on myocardial energetics and cellular volume, function, and perfusion. Eighteen patients with T2D underwent CMR and P-MRS scans before and after 12 weeks' empagliflozin treatment.

Methods: The cross-sectional, prospective, multicentre, study was conducted from June 2014 till July 2015 at family practice clinics in 27 cities across Pakistan, and comprised individuals aged 30-50 years diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus within the preceding six months. Laboratory investigations were conducted at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore, and Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi.
