Children who suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI) often experience acute and chronic pain, which is linked to a poor quality of life. Buprenorphine (BPN) is commonly used to treat moderate to severe persistent pain in children, however, the efficacy and safety profile of BPN in the pediatric population is still inconclusive. This study investigated the sex-specific effects of BPN on body weight, motor coordination and strength, expression of opioid receptors in the white matter astrocytes, and neuroinflammation in a mouse impact acceleration model of pediatric TBI.

Article Synopsis
  • DNA damage is a key aspect of plant immune responses, but other immune processes may reduce this damage to protect the plant's genetic material.
  • Research reveals that preventing cell death associated with certain immune receptors, like NLRs, can stop this DNA damage.
  • SNI1, a protein linked to DNA damage regulation, plays a role in this process, and DNA damage in certain mutant plants is affected by the NLR signaling component EDS1.*

Genetics studies the structure/function of genes via the characterization of their mutant phenotypes. In plants, a readily scorable mutant phenotype comprises macroscopic lesions symptomatic of disease in the absence of pathogens. Such mutants therefore exhibit autoimmune phenotypes.
