Towards Novel Potential Molecular Targets for Antidepressant and Antipsychotic Pharmacotherapies.

Depression and schizophrenia are two highly prevalent and severely debilitating neuropsychiatric disorders. Both conventional antidepressant and antipsychotic pharmacotherapies are often inefficient clinically, causing multiple side effects and serious patient compliance problems. Collectively, this calls for the development of novel drug targets for treating depressed and schizophrenic patients.

Factors associated with unfavourable treatment outcomes among people with rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis in Armenia, 2014-2017.

Rifampicin-Resistant/Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (RR/MDR-TB) is recognized as a major public health concern globally. In Armenia, the proportion of RR/MDR-TB is increasing among all people affected with TB. We conducted a nationwide cohort study involving analysis of programmatic data to investigate the rates of and factors associated with unfavourable treatment outcomes among patients with RR/MDR-TB registered by the national TB programme from 2014 to 2017 in Armenia.

Neurochemical regulators of food behavior for pharmacological treatment of obesity: current status and future prospects.

In recent decades, obesity has become a pandemic disease and appears to be an ultimate medical and social problem. Existing antiobesity drugs show low efficiency and a wide variety of side effects. In this review, we discuss possible mechanisms underlying brain-gut-adipose tissue axis, as well as molecular biochemical characteristics of various neurochemical regulators of body weight and appetite.

Hybridisation at the organic-metal interface: a surface-scientific analogue of Hückel's rule?

We demonstrate that cyclooctatetraene (COT) can be stabilised in different conformations when adsorbed on different noble-metal surfaces due to varying molecule-substrate interactions. While at first glance the behaviour seems to be in accordance with Hückel's rule, a theoretical analysis reveals no significant charge transfer. The driving mechanism for the conformational change is hybridisation at the organic-metal interface and does not necessitate any charge transfer.
