Big data in breast cancer: Towards precision treatment.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent and deadliest cancer among women globally, representing a major threat to public health. In response, the World Health Organization has established the Global Breast Cancer Initiative framework to reduce breast cancer mortality through global collaboration. The integration of big data analytics (BDA) and precision medicine has transformed our understanding of breast cancer's biological traits and treatment responses.

Incidence of anemia and red blood cell (RBC) transfusion requirement in breast cancer.

Background: Cancer-related anaemia is one of the main burdens in oncology, although the available data on its prevalence and treatment options such as blood transfusion are often contradictory. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of anaemia and the requirement for packed red blood cell (PRBC) transfusion among women with breast cancer (BC) and to determine the associated factors for chemotherapy-induced anaemia (CIA).

Methods: This cross-sectional retrospective study conducted in Kelantan involved 104 newly diagnosed female BC patients from 2015 to 2016 who underwent chemotherapy.

A comparison of breast cancer survival across different age groups: a multicentric database study in Penang, Malaysia.

This study compared breast cancer survival and the prognostic factors across different age groups of women in Penang, Malaysia. Data on 2,166 women with breast cancer who had been diagnosed between 2010 and 2014 were extracted from the Penang Breast Cancer Registry and stratified into 3 age groups: young (< 40 years old), middle-aged (40-59 years old), and elderly (≥ 60 years). The overall and relative survival rates were calculated using the life table method, median survival time was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and comparisons between groups were conducted using the log-rank test.

Brachytherapy of tongue carcinoma in a patient with difficult airway: anesthetic considerations.

The practice of brachytherapy in unresectable tongue carcinoma is gaining popularity. However, this procedure poses specific anesthetic challenges, particularly challenges of airway sharing and a higher rate of difficult airway. We report a 74-year-old chronic smoker, chronic alcoholic with history of stroke, who had undergone brachytherapy for tongue carcinoma.
