The Key West Housing Authority created SafePort, a residential substance abuse treatment program within public housing to provide drug treatment to parenting women. All family members-women, children, and significant others-receive comprehensive assessments to determine appropriate therapeutic interventions to resolve their problems. Preliminary evaluation findings suggest that women who participate with their children are more likely to remain drug free than are those who participated without their children.

Amaranthus retroflexus (redroot pigweed)-induced nephrotoxicity was diagnosed in 6 herds of cattle from 3 counties in southwest Missouri. Forty-eight cows and calves died and another 35 were clinically affected. One hundred seventy-eight men and women with acute gonorrhea were treated by intramuscular administration of cefuroxime. Use of 1 g of cefuroxime plus 1 g of probenecid gave a cure rate of 95.5%, which compared well with that of a standard treatment of 5 x 10(6) units of intramuscularly administered benzyl penicillin plus 1 g of probenecid.
