This case highlights that atrial fibrillation can occur as an adverse effect of tamsulosin even in younger patients at lower doses, challenging the conventional understanding that this complication primarily affects older individuals on higher doses. Clinicians should remain vigilant for this potential side effect across all patient demographics to ensure prompt identification and management.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the levels of heavy metals (Fe, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb) in water, sediments, and golden mahseer fish from the Zhob River to determine their safety for human consumption.
  • Results showed that while water quality parameters like temperature and pH were acceptable, some indicators like electrical conductivity and turbidity exceeded safety limits; however, metal concentrations in fish tissues were within safe consumption standards.
  • Health risk assessments indicated that daily metal intake from the fish was within recommended levels, suggesting no significant health risks for locals, though combined metal exposure could pose potential risks.

Around the world, paid work without appropriate structural support is a key barrier to optimal breastfeeding practices. To better protect, promote, and support optimal breastfeeding practices among working women in Africa, this scoping review sought to understand how paid work influences infant feeding practices in the first 6 mo of life and what support women need to manage work and optimal infant feeding practices. We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, Global Health, and CINAHL Plus, screened 2436 abstracts, and reviewed 322 full-text articles using Covidence for review and charting.

Article Synopsis
  • Copper is essential for various metabolic processes in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms, but excessive levels can negatively impact plant growth and development.
  • The study investigated the effects of organic and Cu-contaminated soils on fibrous jute (Corchorus capsularis) over a 60-day period, revealing that organic soil improved seed germination, plant height, and overall biomass while reducing toxic compounds in plants.
  • In contrast, plants in Cu-contaminated soil exhibited stunted growth, increased toxicity markers, and damaged cellular structures, highlighting the detrimental effects of Cu on plant health compared to those grown in organic soil.

Growing environmental pollution worldwide is mostly caused by the accumulation of different types of liquid and solid wastes. Therefore, policies in developed countries seek to support the concept of waste recycling due to its significant impact on the environmental footprint. Hot-mix asphalt mixtures (HMA) with reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) have shown great performance under rutting.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease with multisystem involvement. It is multifactorial and involves epigenetic, genetic, ecological, and environmental factors. Primarily it leads to activation of both innate and adaptive immunity, which consequently leads to autoreactive B cell activation by T cells and leads to immune complexes deposition in tissues leading to an autoimmune cascade that may be limited to the single organ or can cause a widespread systemic involvement.

The aim of this study is to investigate the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with breast cancer in our population of Arab patients. We investigated 26 breast cancer patients and an equal number of healthy age- and sex-matched control volunteers. We examined the exome wide microarray-based biomarkers and screened 243,345 SNPs for their possible significant association with our breast cancer patients.

Castleman's disease is a disorder of the lymph nodes that encompasses heterogeneous clinical conditions and can be classified into two main types - hyaline vascular and plasma cell. The affected age group ranges widely from two to 80 years old at the time of diagnosis, with a variable clinical presentation. The etiology of Castleman's disease is not yet well-understood; however, a number of factors have been linked to its pathogenesis including certain cytokines, viral infections, autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, chronic inflammation, and Kaposi sarcoma.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study focused on Washington navel orange trees, comparing the effects of three iron forms (nano, sulfate, and chelated) on growth and fruit quality through foliar spraying.
  • * Results showed that using nano iron particles (Fe-NPs) and chelated iron (Fe-chelated, EDTA) significantly improved tree growth, fruit yield, and nutritional quality, with Fe-NPs increasing yield by 32% compared to the control.

The mango is one of the most valuable and appealing tropical fruits due to its color, aroma, tasteful remarkable flavor, and nutritive value; however, improving the yield and quality of mango is an urgent goal in order to combat global population growth. The application of amino acids and a micronutrient mixture might improve the yield and quality features but further research is still required in arid regions. To study the combined effect of a micronutrient mixture (MM) and amino acids (AA) at different rates, twenty-seven Fagri Kalan mango trees (15 years old) were carefully selected.

Introduction: The current study aimed to describe genotypes associated with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) in a cohort of Saudi and non-Saudi patients and discuss their possible susceptibility to HL.

Methods: We studied clinical, histopathological, and laboratory findings of HL patients admitted over 12 years duration, at King Fahd University Hospital, KSA. The genomic DNAs of HL patients (n = 61) and normal control subjects (n = 36) were extracted, and genotyping was performed using the Illumina human exome bead chip.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends early initiation of breastfeeding within 1 h as it confers many benefits to the child and prevents neonatal mortality. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with timely initiation of breastfeeding in the Kilimanjaro region, northern Tanzania.

Methods: We analyzed secondary data for 866 participants from a population-based cross-sectional study conducted in April 2016 among mothers with children aged less than 5 years in three districts; Rombo, Same, and Moshi Municipal council in Kilimanjaro region, northern Tanzania.

Background: Infections transmitted from mother to child (MTCT) during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding contribute significantly to the high infant and childhood morbidity and mortality in sub-Saharan African countries. The most significant and preventable of these include HIV, syphilis, and rubella. To achieve elimination, mothers need to be aware of and to understand effective preventive measures against these infections.

Background: Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) remains not an uncommon occurrence in USA and the rest of the world. However, the survival to discharge following an episode of OHCA in adults is still very disappointing at around 10%. Several areas of improvement including education of general public in early Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by bystander, chest compression first, and improvement of Emergency Medical response time have had a positive effect on the outcomes and survival but still much needs to be done.

Psoriasis is an idiopathic chronic immune-mediated skin condition in which the body's immune system undergoes several derangements, including increased antigen presentation by T cells and increased T-helper cell type 1 cytokines, resulting in skin lesions as well as arthritis. Despite that cardiovascular involvement in psoriasis is common and reported in up to 47% of cases, this association is not well recognized by physicians, dermatologists, and cardiologists. Psoriasis is considered the most prevalent autoimmune disease in the United States and affects approximately 7.

Inotropes improve symptoms in advanced heart failure (HF) but were associated with higher mortality in clinical trials. Recurrent hospitalizations, arrhythmias, and infections contribute to morbidity and mortality, but the risks of these complications with modern HF therapies are not well known. We collected arrhythmia, infection, and hospitalization data on 197 patients discharged from our institution from January 2007 to March 2013 on intravenous inotropes.
